Three Alvaro Morata replacements Chelsea must consider in January

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has given up on Alvaro Morata and wants to sign a new striker in January, claims the Sun.

Alvaro Morata, 25, had a fantastic start to life at Stamford Bridge under Antonio Conte last season, scoring eight goals in the opening nine games. But the Spaniard’s form soon dipped drastically and he has struggled to impress for the Blues ever since.

Morata is a very talented centre-forward, but he has been struggling with his confidence despite scoring against Vidi FC and Southampton. And now Sarri wishes to cut his losses as soon as possible.

With Sarri hoping to sign a new striker in the New Year, here are three Morata replacements Chelsea must consider.

Krzysztof Piatek (Genoa)

Krzysztof Piatek signed for Genoa in the summer and has taken the Serie A by storm with nine goals in seven appearances, and 13 goals in all competitions.

At the age of 23, Piatek has plenty to offer and if Chelsea sign him, Sarri can definitely improve him as a player. The Pole is a poacher in every sense, adept at making intelligent runs behind the defenders. The 23-year-old is also capable of creating chances for himself with his link-up play.

Overall, Piatek is a very talented player and would be a smart long-term investment for the Blues.

Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)

Mauro Icardi has been a goal machine at Inter Milan for the last few seasons and has five goals in eight games this season. He has been the captain at Inter since 2016.

Mauro Icardi

Icardi, 25, is one of the most coveted centre-forwards in Europe. The Argentine is a complete centre-forward capable of scoring goals with his head and feet. Despite not possessing a towering frame, he is very good with his hold-up play and his movement off the ball is magnificent.

Icardi has a proven goal-scoring record in Italy and his signing would take Chelsea to a whole new level. But the Blues should break the bank for the Argentine, who could be the ideal replacement for Morata.

Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)

Timo Werner has been making waves with RB Leipzig for the last couple of seasons in the Bundesliga.

Timo Werner

The 22-year-old German is a very good finisher when given chances and is very dangerous around the box and with time, he is getting very difficult to play against. A pacy striker with a killer instinct inside the box, Werner is slowly starting to strike fear in the hearts of the opponents.

At the age of 22, Werner has plenty to offer and would be a fantastic addition for Sarri’s Chelsea.
