Bournemouth 3-3 Watford: Six-goal thriller ends all square at the Vitality

Bournemouth and Watford played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, with all six goals coming in the first-half at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday.

Troy Deeney opened the scoring in the 14th minute for Watford after a well-worked move down the right-hand side saw Ken Sema’s dinked cross headed home by the skipper.

Before the opening Watford goal, David Brooks curled one over Ben Foster’s bar and then Jefferson Lerma tried his luck from distance for Bournemouth.

Watford made it 2-0 eight minutes later when Deeney slammed in his second. Gerard Deulofeu raced up from his own half through the middle to the opposition box after a sloppy pass from Dan Gosling had played him in. A sliding tackle on Deulofeu by Steve Cook saw the ball fall kindly fall into the path of Deeney, who smashed the ball into the back of the net from just inside the area in the 27th minute.

The Hornets were in complete control of the game after going 2-0 up. But Bournemouth halved the deficit in the 33rd minute as Ben Foster’s fantastic save from a Gosling header was only parried as far as Nathan Ake, who scored from close range.

Three minutes later, Bournemouth made it 2-2 after Callum Wilson rose superbly to head in a free-kick from Ryan Fraser.

The scoreline remained 2-2 for only two minutes as Watford regained the lead in the 38th minute. Ken Sema scored from Deeney’s knock-down to nudge the Hornets into a 3-2 lead but they held onto that advantage for just two minutes.

A Junior Stanislas cutback rolled across the 18-yard box was dummied twice before it reached Ryan Fraser, who calmly swept the ball inside the near post and past Foster.

The second half was a lukewarm contest in comparison though. Josh King wasted a wonderful opportunity to snatch all three points for Bournemouth, only for Foster’s legs to keep out that effort and salvage a point for Watford.
