Burnley’s season would take a massive turn if they sign this 24-year-old top Scottish league talent in January

Why Jordan Jones could be a smart signing for Burnley in January

According to a report from the Sun, Burnley are keeping tabs on Kilmarnock star Jordan Jones. The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the top talents in the Scottish top-flight since joining Kilmarnock in 2016 from Middlesbrough. Despite the Northern Ireland international’s obvious talent, he is yet to score or provide an assist in the top-flight this season.

But Jordan Jones is out of contract at Kilmarnock at the end of the season and could be available in a cut-price deal next month if the Scottish club decide to cash in on him. That said, Burnley must definitely make a move for the winger in January.

Burnley have had a torrid start to the Premier League season and currently sit in 17th place on the table, just two points adrift of the relegation zone. While a 1-0 victory over Brighton eased some pressure off Sean Dyche, the Clarets have been poor in every department on the pitch so far this season.

They will have to bring in a couple of new players in order to bring the competitive spirit back into the squad and Dyche should target strengthening the forward department.

The Clarets have scored just 15 goals in 16 league games this season, which is a shocking return for a team that has a list of talented and experienced players. One can argue that Burnley’s lack of goals is down to Dyche’s ultra-defensive system, but the creative players are also responsible for the poor show this campaign.

To add more impetus and freshness to the toothless attack, Jordan Jones would be a fantastic fit for Burnley. Jones has plenty of experience playing in England, having started his career at Middlesbrough, and he eventually moved to Kilmarnock during the 2016/17 season.

In his two seasons at Rugby Park, he has developed into one of the most exciting players in Scotland and could give Burnley the attacking punch they require in their squad.

The Northern Ireland winger has explosive pace, trickery and direct approach that will certainly appeal to Sean Dyche.

His work rate is good and Jones can provide assists and goals to the lacklustre Burnley side, while also provide cover for Aaron Lennon and Johann Berg Gudmundsson if either was to miss out on action due to injury or suspension. Jones’ directness and ability to drive everyone forward in his side will be a constant threat to the opposition as well.

Therefore, Burnley could do a lot worse than swooping in on highly-rated Jones. Even though he is yet to open his account for Kilmarnock this season, the 24-year-old could be worth the gamble for Dyche.
