Sean Dyche
According to The Sun, Everton’s Mason Holgate has been linked with a move to Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
The figure being quoted by the Toffees is £10million and Burnley aren’t the only ones interested, with the report further stating that they’ll have to fight Sheffield United and Bournemouth for the Englishman’s signature.
Holgate joined Everton from Barnsley like former Everton centre-back John Stones in the 2015/16 season and was doing a fine job under Ronald Koeman before he saw himself being played less regularly. He got his break at right-back after the injury suffered by Seamus Coleman but has since struggled to hold onto his place.
Holgate is a former England U-21 international and is now 22-years old, with two years left on his contract at Goodison Park. It doesn’t look he’s in Marco Silva’s plans after spending last season on loan in the Championship at West Brom.
Holgate is capable of playing in central defence as well as at right-back and is quite a tenacious player, who plays with no fear. Burnley could use someone with his aggression as Sean Dyche does encourage aggression in his extremely organized sides. Holgate could do well under his tutelage.
Burnley’s James Tarkowski has been linked with a move to Leicester City all summer given that Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United is done.
Tarkowski has been one of Burnley’s outstanding players in the last couple of seasons and came into prominence in the 2017/18 season where Burnley finished 7th in the league. Tarkowski also earned a national team call-up and finding a replacement for a player of his calibre will be a difficult task.
Holgate has most of the raw attributes to become a great signing and Sean Dyche has shown the ability to get the best out of defensive players. Burnley head into most seasons with the objective of survival and that should be the case this summer as well. However, they’ll be aware that they can always achieve more as they’ve shown in the past.
