Brilliant Wood, Wonderful Pope – The best and the worst rated Burnley players vs Leicester

Full Time: Burnley 2-1 Leicester City

Goals from Chris Wood and Kevin Long sealed an emphatic 2-1 victory for Burnley against Leicester City at Turf Moor. The victory helped the Clarets secure 3 points, meaning they have inched closer to 6th-placed Arsenal. Sean Dyche’s men overshadowed the visiting Leicester side for a good majority of the game.

A goal from Jamie Vardy was the only solace for the Foxes as Burnley put in a fantastic display to deny a draw, particularly in the last few minutes before the final whistle. With 5 consecutive wins under their belt, Burnley look ready to challenge for a Europa League spot.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at how the Burnley players fared against Leicester.

Burnley Player Ratings

Nick Pope – 8/10

Another day, another solid display from Pope. He remained calm even in high-pressure situations and made some important saves for Burnley.

Matt Lowton – 7/10

A reassuring display from Lowton as he kept the Leicester attackers at bay. He offered good pace going forward as well.

James Tarkowski – 7.5/10

Tarkowski’s importance to the Burnley team is unparalleled and he put in a composed performance at the heart of the defence. He chipped in with some much-needed tackles and interceptions to break Leicester attacks.

Kevin Long

Kevin Long – 8/10

In Mee’s absence, Long has truly proven his worth. He defended admirably and deserves an extra point for chipping in with that wonderful goal.

Stephen Ward – 7/10

A routine performance from Ward. He worked well with his teammates to fend off the opponents and made some crucial blocks.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson – 6.5/10

Not his finest performance but Gudmundsson made a decent impact in this one. He played a role in the build-up to Long’s goal but he struggled a bit against Riyad Mahrez.

Ashley Westwood – 6/10

Could have done better on the counter-attack. Westwood tried a lot to make things work in Burnley’s favour but he often fell short against his Leicester counterparts.

Jack Cork – 7.5/10

Cork made some impressive runs and was creative as well. He linked up well with his teammates and troubled Leicester’s defenders throughout the game.

Chris Wood

Aaron Lennon – 8/10

Lennon’s pace and trickery proved to be quite a handful for Claude Puel’s men. He chipped in with a fair amount of creativity and his incisive runs certainly worked in Burnley’s favour. However, the player did pick up a booking.

Ashley Barnes – 8.5/10

Was excellent in possession and played an important role in the build-up to Chris Wood’s goal. He is only going from strength-to-strength for Burnley.

Chris Wood – 9/10

The man of the moment, Chris Wood calmly slotted in the opening goal. From there on, he cruised ahead and worked wonders for the Clarets.

Substitutes

Jeff Hendrick – N/A

Replaced Chris Wood in the 75th minute.

Sam Vokes – N/A

Came on for Barnes in the 85th minute.
