This was a massive win for Derby County as it pushed them further into the playoff positions, also fending off the attempts from Preston to overtake them.
The game could’ve been so much different, with Preston missing a first-half penalty. Derby scored the all-important goal and went on to take all three points in this promotion clash.
Carson had a good solid game, making three big saves and commanding his area well throughout the game.
An excellent display from the left-back as he won his tackles and aerial challenges throughout the game. He also passed the ball well down that left-hand side.
The Derby centre-back had an excellent game, running the back four for Derby and keeping the Preston strikers at bay. He won nine aerial challenges in the game and also tackled excellently.
Pearce played an excellent game. He and Davies looked like a brick wall at the back for Derby.
Andre Wisdom – 7/10
Andre Wisdom made up the right-hand side of the back four and performed on par with the rest. Nothing extraordinary but still kept the right-hand side of the Preston team fairly quiet.
Ledley marshalled the midfield well, won his tackles and dispossessed the Preston midfield on several occasions.
Huddlestone tackled well and bossed the Preston midfield around but will be disappointed with his overall passing performance.
Lawrence looked a different player today, grabbing a goal and always looking like a threat.
Didn’t look like his usual self and never really looked like scoring. Will hopefully be back to normal in his next game as Derby need him to be firing on all cylinders at this stage of the season.
Looked a threat down the left-wing, with a couple of successful dribbles at the Preston defence. Unfortunately, his end product was not there today.
Nugent had a good game. He was the perfect target-man, winning thirteen of his aerial duels and keeping possession very well for his team, setting up some good attacks.
Replaced Vydra in the 74th minute and his best work was that he kept the Preston attackers at bay.
Came on in the 89th minute to replace Tom Lawrence.
