Tottenham Hotspur have thrown themselves into the battle for the Premier League title, displacing favourites Manchester City with a 1-2 victory over Watford, who hold every right to put the blame on poor refereeing decisions for their loss.

Hugo Lloris – 6

The French goalkeeper was untested for most parts of the game but dealt with the  crosses well to ensure victory for his side. Even though he can be expected to stop the Watford equalizing goal on another day, eyes were off him as the visitors hauled maximum points off this fixture.

Kieran Trippier – 8

Eyebrows were raised when Mauricio Pochettino signed him, but Kieran Trippier has all but justified his manager’s decision with a confident display on his Premier League debut. The former Burnley man made fantastic runs and topped off a fine performance with an assist, whose end product should not have stood.

Jan Vertonghen – 6.5

The Belgian powerhouse had a rather calm game as he made sure Hugo Lloris remained untroubled throughout the game with his well-timed tackles and clearances. With Watford not posing any attacking threat for most parts of the game, his vital role was, in fact, dictating the game from the deep. However, he was lucky to have not given away a penalty when he grabbed the shirt of the Watford goalscorer.

Eric Dier – 5.5

Odion Ighalo made sure the trend of scoring in consecutive games prevailed as he outpowered a naïve Eric Dier, but the youngster did make up for it with a late tackle to prevent the newbies from getting back into the game. However, he deserves credit for adapting from defence to midfield quickly halfway into the game.

Toby Alderweireld – 7

The former Southamton centreback could take pride in having pocketed the in-form Troy Deeney and came across as aggressive.

Danny Rose – 5

The Tottenham youth product failed to capitalise with the space the home side gifted him with, but he made quite a few interceptions. Danny Rose should up his game in the forthcoming matchdays.

Moussa Dembele – 6

Christian Eriksen was brought on in favor of Dembele in the second half as a tactical change, but, the Belgian did seem to find spaces in crowded Watford areas.

Dele Alli – 6.5

Deli Alli is having an incredible debut season with the Premier League giants and the youngster did make sure his fine run of form continued as he looked comfortable in the middle of the pitch after a shaky start to the game.

Tom Carroll – 5.5

The youngster could not be found guilty as he resorted to playing safe, but he never really made an impression for his manager to consider his name before naming the starting eleven for their upcoming fixtures.

Eric Lamela – 8

Eric Lamela managed to take the man-of-the-match award away from the debutant with his attacking game. After the introduction of Christian Eriksen, the threat he posed doubled.

Harry Kane – 7

The England international could not be found fault for his contributions, but questions were raised with regard to his conversion rate against Quique Sanchez Flores’ men. With Eric Lamela, he formed an intimidating partnership.

Christian Eriksen – 7

With Moussa Dembele and Tom Carroll on the pitch, creativity was non-existent, but the Danish midfielder made up for it in the later stages of the game.

Heung-Min Son  7.5

The South Korean’s presence was hardly felt until he cleverly put one past Heurelho Gomes.

Praveen R. Paramasivam

Praveen adores Georgia and Trebuchet, besides defense-splitting passes and through balls.
