Liverpool Player Ratings vs Leicester City: Here’s how the Reds fared

It was a nervy finish for Liverpool as the Reds continued their winning start to the season. Jurgen Klopp’s men edged it past Leicester City by a 2-1 scoreline, thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the first half.

Alisson was given a reality check by James Maddison who stole the ball from the goalkeeper from the right edge of the box to tee in Rachid Ghezzal, who scored his first goal for the club. Liverpool looked troubled after the goal and the Foxes came close on other occasions. But the Reds held tight to maintain their good start to the season.

Liverpool Player Ratings

Alisson Becker (6/10)

The Brazilian made a couple of decent saves but committed a blunder that resulted in the Foxes pulling one back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (7/10)

Arnold was defensively stable but was unable to affect the game going forward. The right-back was rarely seen whipping in the crosses.

Joe Gomez (9/10)

Liverpool’s best player on the night, Gomez made a number of interceptions and clearances. The centre-back also made a match-winning tackle to stop James Maddison.

Virgil Van Dijk (7/10)

Van Dijk started the game in shaky fashion but once again proved his worth when it mattered the most. He was aerially dominant and defensively solid but picked up a yellow.

Andrew Robertson (8/10)

Still superior, still electric, Andy Robertson picked up another assist to cap off a strong performance on the day.

James Milner (7/10)

Milner picked up an assist for Firmino’s goal via a corner and tracked back to cover the defenders whenever required.

Georginio Wijnaldum (7/10)

The Dutchman was impressive with ball retentiom and crisp distribution in the middle of the park.

Jordan Henderson (6/10)

Henderson was unable to replicate Naby Keita’s defensive work rate but played a couple of long balls to execute the attack.

Mohamed Salah (6/10)

Salah squandered a glorious chance in the first half and wasn’t in sync with his teammates.

Roberto Firmino (8/10)

Firmino picked up his first goal of the season and was a constant nuisance around Leicester’s defensive area.

Roberto Firmino

Sadio Mane (8/10)

Mane continues to impress and prove his worth as one of the deadliest attackers in the Premier League.

Substitutes

Xherdan Shaqiri (6/10)

Shaqiri was unable to influence much going forward but looked lively on the ball and played out a couple of simple passes.

Naby Keita (6/10)

Keita was brought on to offer some defensive resistance in the middle of the park. The former RB Leipzig man won a couple of important fouls.

Joel Matip (N/A)

Matip was brought on in the final few minutes of the game and was unable to do much in the short period.
