Stoke City Player Ratings vs Swansea City – Here’s how the Potters fared

A controversial Joe Allen goal against his former club Swansea City saw Stoke City claim a much-needed 1-0 win. Striker Benik Afobe appeared to be offside when the ball ricocheted off him to fall in the path of Allen, who lashed home the winner. Swansea appeals went in vain.

The home side did miss few chances before scoring, with Afobe and Tom Ince guilty of glaring misses. Swansea responded with chances of their own, but Jack Butland made two good saves to keep his team in the game.

This win puts Stoke at 14th position in the table. It is now time for Garry Rowett to build on this.

Stoke City Player Ratings

Jack Butland (8)

Made a couple of good saves early on and then produced an acrobatic save to deny a Swansea equaliser.

Jack Butland

Cuco Martina (6.5)

Was very good defensively when, however, he was not enough going forward.

Ryan Shawcross (7)

Looked commanding from the very first minute. Took time on the ball but was never in doubt when it came to winning duels.

Bruno Martins Indi (7)

A performance filled with concentration and poise at the back for Martins Indi. Solid and assured.

Eric Pieters (8)

Very solid performance from the left-back who was immense throughout.

Ryan Woods (7)

Looked good on the ball but sometimes, he overdoes things. Overall, he was very good.

Joe Allen

Joe Allen (8)

A very assertive performance in the midfield by the Welshman. Almost got embarrassed after scoring the goal but his display on the pitch was good.

Peter Etebo (7)

A very fluid display from Etebo. Almost got the second yellow.

Tom Ince (7)

Should have a scored a goal late on but the winger was very impactful as he occupied the defenders and created space for other runners.

Benik Afobe (7)

Could have had a goal had he been more clinical, especially in the first half. Got a lucky (offside) deflected assist to his name for the match-winning goal.

Mame Diouf

Mame Biram Diouf (7)

Ran hard for the team without really threatening. Did some good defensive work by tracking back.

Substitutes

Saido Berahino (Subbed on after 75 mins) (6.5)

Injected fresh energy in the forward line and used the ball well.
