Burnley secured their first Premier League win since January when they managed to defeat Mark Hughes’ Stoke City 1-0 at the Turf Moor on Tuesday.

The Clarets struggled to break down a strong Stoke rearguard in the first-half, but came out with a better intent post the half-time. And soon enough they were rewarded when George Boyd opening the scoring following some good work by Jeff Hendrick, just a little before the hour mark. And as it turned out, that goal was enough for Burnley to take the three points.

Sean Dyche’s men managed to arrest their recent downslide in the table, having failed to win in their last seven league games. The win sees Burnley jump up to the 12th position in the table, eight points clear of the drop zone. Here is how the Burnley players fared on the night:

Burnley Player Ratings

Tom Heaton – 7/10

Had very little to do apart from  some routine stops from long-distance efforts. Largely untroubled. Commanding and comfortable at the back.

Matthew Lowton – 7/10

Made a couple of charging runs down the right-side and linked up well with Boyd. Was troubled by Marko Arnautovic at times, but remained fairly solid.

Michael Keane – 7.5/10

Extremely solid performance from the England international. Won all of his battles in the heart of the defence and looked comfortable when stepping out with the ball from the back.

Ben Mee – 7.5/10

Another steady showing at the back from the 27-year old. Dependable and reliable, Mee was solid as a wall.

Stephen Ward – 6/10

Struggled at times, but stuck to his task. Booked and could have seen a second yellow after a couple of silly fouls.

George Boyd – 6.5/10

Scored the only goal of the game in the second half, with a nice left-footed finish. But apart from that, wasn’t really impressive. Booked late in the game.

Jeff Hendrick – 7/0

Went on an outstanding run past several Stoke players to tee up Boyd for the opener. Provided the thrust and the energy in the midfield.

Joey Barton – 6/10

Got stuck into the Stoke midfielders as expected and offered a combative presence in the middle of the park. Booked.

Steven Defour – 6/10

Started in an unfamiliar role out on the left-side. Displayed a few moments of class, but is better utilized in a central role. Taken off in the 57th minute.

Sam Vokes – 6.5/10

The big man started the game in place of Ashley Barnes and was a force in the air. Held up the ball well and was energetic for most parts.

Andre Gray – 6/10

Was well marshalled by the Stoke defence, but fought hard and tried to make things happen. A frustrating night for the striker.

Substitutes

Robbie Brady – 6/10

Replaced Defour in the 57th minute. Had one effort a goal blocked. Did not to do much of note.

Ashley Barnes – 6/10

Came on for Gray in the 78th minute. Won some free-kicks in the later stages to ease the pressure.

James Tarkowski – NA

Replaced Sam Vokes for the last five minutes with Burnley looking to protect the lead.
