Why Bournemouth should sign Danny Drinkwater on loan

According to a report in Daily Mail, Premier League side Bournemouth are interested in taking Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater on loan. The Englishman has struggled to break into the starting eleven under both Antonio Conte and now Maurizio Sarri.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2017 for £35m, the midfielder has only managed to make 23 appearances, 12 of them in the Premier League. He is yet to feature under Sarri this season, which underlines the fact that he is surplus to requirement at West London.

Cherries manager Eddie Howe is interested in getting the former league winner for the rest of this season. Here’s why they should get him before the deadline day:

Danny Drinkwater

This move would suit both parties

With Lewis Cook out for the rest of this season, Bournemouth are down to three senior midfield options. One more injury or some bad form means that Howe could be forced to think hard before picking his line-up.

Hence, the best thing to do would be to sign another midfielder, at least for the rest of this season. And Danny Drinkwater could be a perfect foil given how the Cherries play their football. We all know about Leicester’s miracle season in which they won the title.

Claudio Ranieri played a 4-4-2 formation for most of the campaign, with Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante in a double pivot midfield. Eddie Howe also likes to line his team up in a 4-4-2 formation usually. Therefore, the 28-year-old wouldn’t take much time to settle into the team in terms of the formation deployed.

Furthermore, he has the experience of winning a Premier League title, which will help an inexperienced team in a massive way when it comes to dealing with tough circumstances.

All in all, Drinkwater to Bournemouth looks like a no-brainer from the Cherries’ point of view. Also, from what the Englishman has witnessed at Chelsea, he could do with a move away from Stamford Bridge in search of playing time.

Hence, this looks like a move where all parties would be happy. Eddie Howe’s men would get a player who can be used in the midfield, adding competition for places to that position.

Bournemouth are currently in the bottom half in the league table. If they are aiming to finish in the top-10, then Drinkwater would play a huge part.
