Best Combined XI From Manchester City and Liverpool – SAS And City Defenders Dominating the Lineup

Share

With both Liverpool and Manchester City being the front runners of this season’s Premier League we at Soccersouls decided to make a combined XI from these two sides.

Formation- 4-4-1-1

Goalkeeper

Joe Hart (Manchester City) – While this was a tough one simply for the fact that Simon Mignolet has been performing very well for Liverpool as well, the simple fact is that Joe Hart, ever since he was dropped earlier and then came back, has been in spectacular form and if one has to choose between the two it has to be Joe Hart for his sheer consistency for the last few months.

Defenders

Vincent Kompany (Manchester City) – The Belgian has been a rock at the back and is one of the best central defenders in the league if not the world. He provides stability and great leadership to any and every team he plays for.

Skrtel

Martin Skrtel (Liverpool) – A bit of a controversial choice but Skrtel has played really well for the much maligned Liverpool defense. While critics have not gone easy on the Liverpool defense, the Slovakian has gone a bit under the radar despite his fine defending and his goals at some vital times.

Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City) – Zabaleta has been a rock for Manchester City in the right back position. Rarely has he been caught out of position and despite such solid defensive showings he has also made some great runs in the wings to provide support to the likes of Jesus Navas. In fact his goal scoring record for a fullback is amongst the best in the league.

Aleksandar Kolarov (Manchester City) – While in previous seasons he had been used mostly as an utility player this is the season he has made the position of left back his own. Brilliant going forward, he has improved the defensive side of his game as well. Also combine his accurate free kicks and Manchester City has quite a gem in Kolarov in their ranks.

Midfielders

Yaya Toure (Manchester City) – The Ivorian, like every other season, is in fine form and not only is he protecting the back four spectacularly but he is also popping up with the important goals at the right moment. He is the backbone of any and every side he plays for.

Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) – The Liverpool captain looks that he might just win the Premier League title and it is no small part due to his contributions at the middle of the park. Hitting crossfield balls from 70 yards out and making the darting runs from the back, he is a player any manager can dream of having in their team.

Silva

David Silva (Manchester City) – The Spaniard has been an ever present in the Manchester City side like always and ever since he returned from his injury he has been consistently performing well. Even without Aguero out, Silva has made sure that the creative spark is never lacking.

Raheem Sterling (Liverpool) – The tricky winger has won hearts all over with his pace and skill on the wings. While not many thought that he was capable of performing at this level he has proven everybody wrong by producing class performances match in and match out.

Forwards

Suarez

Luis Suarez (Liverpool) – No words can describe the genius of the Uruguayan. A cert to win the Golden Boot award despite missing so many matches at the start of the present campaign. The one man who has almost single handedly taken Liverpool to the Premier League title is truly the best striker in the league right now, if not the world.

Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) – A bit of a controversial choice for choosing Sturridge over Aguero but the strike partnership of Suarez and Sturridge just works on so many levels. While Sergio Aguero is better individually than Daniel Sturridge any day of the week, one just cannot break the most successful strike partnership in the entire league right now. Also Aguero injury woes through out the season means that Sturridge pips Aguero to the last place in this combined XI.
