Watford vs Arsenal report – Arsenal Match Report

Arsenal just managed to squeeze past 10-man Watford 1-0 at Vicarage Road to go back to fourth position in the league table. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal of the game, in which Troy Deeney got sent off very early.

The match began with the home side putting some early pressure on the Arsenal defence.

However, the first goal arrived in the 10th minute in favour of the Gunners when Ben Foster’s clearance was charged down by Aubameyang from the blind side. The ricochet went into the back of the net to send everyone to shock.

Seconds later, Deeney elbowed Lucas Torreira, and the referee deemed it enough to send the Watford captain for an early shower.

At this point, Arsenal were expected to take control of this game and score more goals but the Hornets kept their wits about and fought hard. They had two good chances to equalise in the first half but Bernd Leno made a pair of good saves.

The away side were always a threat on the counter, especially in the second half when the Watford legs tired down. However, the likes of Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang were guilty of not producing that cutting edge in the final third.

Eventually, Javi Gracia’s men had their big moment when Andre Gray went around the keeper to score. But his effort was heroically blocked by Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

After that, Arsenal just managed to hold the lead and get an important three points.

Here’s how their fans reacted after a twitchy win:
