Nico Yennaris is the latest Gunner to be called upon to the first team when Arsenal take on Coventry later today and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Yennaris’ selection for the Capital One Cup clash with Coventry is a sign of progression in the 19 year old midfielder.
Yennaris joined the club at the age of seven in 2001 and progressed through the ranks to finally sign a professional contract in 2010 and made his full debut a year later against Bolton in the league cup. Yennaris went out on loan for the first time last year to Notts County but only managed to make two appearances. However, the youngster has shown an incredible work rate and improvement in the pitch to have been called up for the first team again.
Yennaris also made a substitute appearance in the Barclays Premier League against Manchester United in January.
“He has a good chance to be on the pitch on Wednesday night, so that is a fantastic story,” Wenger said on Arsenal Player.
“Dreams do come true sometimes when you really want it and have been lucky as well.
“First of all you must really want it and Nico is one of these guys who has that.
“He is ready to give himself a chance with full commitment.
“Nico is a fantastic player, but also has an excellent attitude – his is a good example to follow for all of the fans who will turn up on Wednesday night.”
