As the frustration grows for Arsenal supporters, Campbell has been sent out on yet another loan deal. The Costa Rican forward now joins Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan deal. Discovered by former Arsenal player and the club’s current North American scout Daniel Karbassiyoon, Campbell has always had undoubted talent. Yet, Wenger seems to be resisting the opportunity to give first-team opportunities to the player. The reluctance shown by the Frenchman is similar to a reluctance in playing Walcott as the central striker.

Since his move to Arsenal in 2011, Campbell has been out on loan at five different clubs already. Apart from the lack of consistency, these moves will start to take its toll on the confidence of the player. Wenger will point out to the mediocre goal scoring record of the 24-year-old, but if it is the case, Arsenal should be better off selling him rather than experiencing – and letting the player experience – Groundhog Day.

At 24 years of age, Campbell is most likely to start wondering if he does have a future at Arsenal. It may not be the case since Wenger does not usually wait this long to hand a young player the responsibility. Players like Jack Wilshere and Cesc Fabregas are a perfect example of the Frenchman’s quality when it comes to selecting youngsters for the first team. At this moment, though, Campbell’s presence in the Arsenal team would have been a major boost.

Apart from offering a real alternative to Olivier Giroud, Campbell could also have been given a proper shot at showing his talent. Yes, he has failed to deliver at his previous loan spells but they are not the only indicator of his abilities and quality. Several Arsenal fans have expressed their displeasure on social media about Wenger’s treatment of Campbell.
