Arsenal’s Win Over Stoke In Pictures + Injury News

Arsenal are on top of the table with a 3-1 win over Stoke City at the Emirates today. The Gunners along with cross town rivals Tottenham Hotspur are tied at the first place with 12 points from the 5 games they have played.

Arsenal went into the match after a promising win over Marsellie in midweek Champions League match and although Stoke looked promising early on, the Gunners never really allowed them to settle down. Arsenal scored three goals tonight, and surprisingly all the three came from set pieces and all of them were provided by Mesut Ozil who made his home debut.

Aaron Ramsey scored the opener from a shot saved by Begovic which landed on to the Welsh man’s path. While Stoke’s Cameron equalised soon after, defenders Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna got onto the score sheet to give the Gunners a promising 3-1 win.

Talking to the press after the game, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as you would expect heaped praise on Mesut Ozil’s outstanding home debut.

‘I didn’t expect to score so many headers from free-kicks against Stoke, but the delivery is very important and the deliveries were good today,” the Frenchman told Sky Sports.

‘Like the team he gave a lot on Wednesday night (against Marseille), but he showed his class today and he worked hard as well.’

And when asked about Walcott’s situation, Wenger as quoted by the BBC said:

“We hope we haven’t lost Walcott for a long time. He has a muscular abdominal problem but I don’t know how serious it is,” Wenger told BBC Sport. Is it a question of days? I hope so. He had a little problem before the Marseille game and it became a bit worse.

“It is a bit mysterious because we don’t really know what it is.”
