Arsenal signing this Real Madrid star would solve an important problem for Unai Emery

Arsenal opinion: Lucas Vazquez would be a good fit for the Gunners

According to a report from Football.London, Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez this summer.

Since Real Madrid have already signed Eden Hazard and Rodrygo this summer, Lucas Vazquez might find himself lower down in the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane. Hence, it seems wise, if the Spaniard seeks a move out of Santiago Bernabeu.

On the other hand, Unai Emery is hoping to make a comeback in the top-4 next season, as the Gunners prepare to sign quality additions before the start of pre-season.

The North London giants are working with a reduced transfer budget this summer after failing to secure a return to Champions League football in Emery’s debut season.

Arsenal conceded over 50 goals in the Premier League alone in the 2018/19 campaign, so Emery’s emphasis will be on bringing in defensive reinforcements. However, that shouldn’t close the club’s door on signing forwards this summer.

While Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang formed a lethal partnership up front, none of the other attacking players contributed with assists and goals consistently this past term.

Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan had unconvincing campaigns, while Mesut Ozil’s disastrous 2018/19 means Emery is planning to offload him this summer.

The Gunners clearly need more quality out wide if they are to improve under Emery and Lucas Vazquez would be a fine fit at the Emirates. He possesses blistering pace and incredible dribbling skills, while his tricks and flicks to get away from the defenders will allow him an easy route towards goal.

The Spanish international has the ability to cause all sorts of problems to opposition defenders with his off the ball movement.

Vazquez may not be the most technically gifted of players but he is extremely versatile and boasts an excellent engine and work rate. He is industrious, committed to the team’s cause and is always a handy option to have from the bench as well.

The 27-year-old has volumes of Champions League experience and has been a serial winner with Real Madrid, so his addition to the Arsenal ranks will certainly bode well.

Verdict

It looks like Vazquez is surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu, following some high-profile arrivals at the club this summer. The Spanish winger is a decent player and if Emery can pull off a deal it would be a major signing for the Gunners.
