Should Arsenal Sell This €24 Million Midfield Wizard For The Right Offer?

Share

The mid-season transfer window is just a couple of months from now, so it’s officially the time to start discussing the dozens of rumours that are constantly surrounding the biggest teams and players in the world in order to tell if they actually make sense or are just complete madness from the press or the owners of the teams.

As you can imagine, the biggest names in the market as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are always being linked with the comes and goes of tons of players, so let’s take a look at one particular rumour that’s been around for a couple of weeks now.

A recent report from the Daily Mirror has mentioned that there has been some mutual interest between Juventus and the Spanish midfielder from Arsenal, Santiago Cazorla, who’s actually having a pretty decent season for Arsene Wenger and his gunners.

Santi, who is rated at €24m by the CIES Football Observatory, has been at Emirates since the start of the 2012 – 2013 campaign, where he arrived after a really terrific season from his homeland side Malaga after some problems with an ownership that couldn’t pay his salary and since his arrival, he’s been kind of inconsistent for Wenger’s team, and after he made just 14 appearances last season, we all thought that the Spaniard was already on his way out of London.

Nevertheless, after eleven matches this season, Cazorla has made himself very reliable for the gunners, scoring a pair of goals while also adding three assists for the red-hot Wenger team while filling for the injured Aaron Ramsey in the starting lineup.

However, we can’t forget that Cazorla is about to turn 32 and it’s safe to say that even if he can contribute to a contender, his prime is far behind him, and veterans are known to succeed in a more slow paced and physical tournament, such as the Italian Serie A, so moving to Juventus would make a lot of sense for him.

Besides, Wenger has a very crowded midfield with Mohamed Elneny, Mesut Ozil, Francis Coquelin, Granit Xhaka, the loaned Jack Wilshere and the soon to return Aaron Ramsey, and most of those guys seem pretty ahead of Cazorla to compete for a starting job when they’re all healthy.

On top of that, Aaron Ramsey’s comeback is most likely to send Cazorla to the bench again, and that’s something that the Spaniard has to know and, given the dominance of Juventus in Italy, it’ll be great for him to retire after a couple of winning seasons, something very unlikely to happen if he stays at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal should make a move and let the Spaniard go while they still can get a couple of bucks out of him, and even if he’ll get a hard time finding minutes in Juventus crowded center of the field, this move would make a lot of sense for both parties. So be prepared to say goodbye to the Spaniard, who might be getting his last appearances in these couple of months before being let go.
