Arsenal Latest Including Szczesny’s Rant Over Tottenham And David Villa’s £12m Pre Contract

Spanish source AS claims that a pre contract deal worth £ 12m is in place to bring Barcelona striker David Villa to the Emirates, ending a long saga of transfer speculation of the striker. Arsene Wenger has wanted to bring the 31 year old World Cup winner to The Emirates for a long time but until now the transfer fee demanded by the Catalan club was seen as a hindrance for the proposed move. But finally it seems that Arsene has managed to capture his target and bring the veteran striker to the club, a move that will certainly make supporters of the club immensely happy.

After Robin Van Persie’s exit to Manchester United last year Arsenal have been unable to fill that vacancy up front with Oliver Giroud wasting an awful lot of chances and Gervinho not fulfilling the early promises that he showed. Thus David Villa will certainly be a big capture for the club, who wish to exploit Villa’s vast experience and knowledge on the field. The prolific youngsters that Arsenal have in their ranks like Wilshere, Walcott and Chamberlain can also learn a lot from Villa who still has some years of football left in him.

The ex-Valencia man will also be looking for a move out of Nou Camp after falling in the pecking order of new manager Tito Vilanova. For a long part of the season he has not been given a permanent place in the team and Alexis Sanchez has been preferred ahead him, in spite of Villa scoring 14 goals from the 22 starts he has had this season. The striker, whom Barcelona bought from Valencia in 2010 for a whooping £ 33m, has struggled for most of his time at the club, recovering from injuries and fighting for a place in the first team.

Therefore Villa’s transfer to Arsenal will definitely benefit both the parties and make Arsenal a much stronger side next season. Although he is not a long term solution for the club at 31, his transfer may just revive the English side’s fortune which seemed to have taken a slump over the past couple of years.

In other news, Szczesny has another dig at Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur as the keeper claimed that their rivals do no have enough quality in them to qualify for the Champions league.

Szczesny told the Arsenal Player:

“I was convinced that Tottenham had drawn 0-0 against Southampton.” He added: “I only found out after the game that they had won 1-0, but I don’t think it matters really.

“If we win our next two games it will be enough because either Chelsea or Spurs will drop points because they play each other. If you look at Chelsea’s fixtures, they have Tottenham and Everton left and they won’t be easy games. And Tottenham do not have enough quality, so there you go…”

“I would settle for another two 1-0 wins in the rest of the season and a place in the top three,” Szczesny said.

“Even if we have games like the QPR one, it might have been boring at times, but we couldn’t care less at this time. We just got the three points.

“Hopefully it will be back to the old days and hopefully we will get back to winning trophies as well.”
