Arsenal Latest Including: A Bid For Yet Another New Midfield Target And Podolski’s Dream About Next Season

Share

For the time being, the summer transfer target list of Arsene Wenger has taken a different direction. After expressing his desire in eminent strikers like Wayne Rooney, Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez earlier, he is now eyeing Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo.

Reports are claiming that the Frenchman is preparing a £15m bid for 25-year-old Gustavo, whose contract runs until 2015. This 25-year old Brazilian international was being monitored by Wenger for quite some time now. In January this year, the Arsenal manager first addressed his inclination for this midfielder.

Though as of now Wenger has only showed interests for a proficient goal scorer, he has some other plans in his mind too. Bidding for Gustavo will surely be a part of it. Although this Brazilian mainly plays as a defensive midfielder, but he can also support as a central defender. Keeping in mind that the Gunners won’t get the service of Thomas Vermaelen early in the season; Gustavo will be a right choice for the North London club.

A substantial bid from Arsenal will do the rest, as Munich won’t dissent much after successfully penning down Thiago Alcantara this season.

In other news, Lukas Podolski has disclosed his thoughts that it will be arduous for Gunners to get the coveted league title this term, considering the strength of the oppositions.

It was FA Cup back in 2005 that Arsenal last won any major trophy. Since then, they have not managed single silverware which has certainly reduced the stature of this monstrous club in Europe. And the Polish-born German International is afraid that this year will be no exception.

“It will not be easy,” he told The Daily Mirror. “Everyone thinks it’s easy to get a trophy. You have five or six teams who fight for first place. It’s not like in Spain where it’s just two teams and in Germany you just have Dortmund and Bayern.

“It’s not easy in England. It’s so competitive. At Arsenal we have good players, a great coach and great fans. If we can pull it together then I believe we can win the Premier League.”

“I will try to play better, score more goals and do some assists for Arsenal,” he added. “It’s very important that we qualify for the Champions League and fight for the championship. It was my first year and I’m very happy. We will see how much I can improve and whether I can get better.”
