Arsenal Latest Including A Bid For A New Keeper And Alan Smith’s Criticism On Wenger

Share

This season Arsenal has had persistent problem with their goalkeeper, with both Szczesny and Fabianski showing some poor form and neither of them being able to establish themselves as the first choice keeper. With the new season knocking at the door, Arsene Wenger would like to change this state of affairs at his club and definitely he will be looking at prospective keepers.

While they have already started discussing names like Julio Cesar of QPR, Reina of Liverpool and Valdes, who has stated that he would prefer to play at a new club, one person who has attracted the attention of one and all is Sven Ulreich of Stuttgart.

Sven Ulreich

The German ex U-21 has been reliable under the sticks throughout the season for his club and his performances have earned him applauds from all quarters. His physical approach of play will suit him well in the Premier League and Arsenal will hugely benefit from him. He also has European experience behind him playing in the Europa League with Stuttgart and at such a tender age for a keeper that is commendable enough.

But the main problem that Wenger will face in his attempts to sign this youngster will be the transfer fees as Ulreich is contract bound with Stuttgart till 2017 and the club would not like to sell their talented keeper at anything less than £10m. But if Arsenal, who reportedly have a £70m transfer kitty this summer, decide to go for him, it may solve all their goalkeeping problems with ease.

In other news, Former Gunners striker Alan Smith, speaks about how he wants Arsene Wenger to change his philosophies and adapt to the modern game much like Sir Alex Ferguson did. Smith writes in the Mail,

“Bould is slightly limited to what he is allowed to do on the training ground. If that is the case then it is a shame, because he can offer a lot in terms of coaching the back four, but that is not Wenger’s way,”

“He doesn’t do specialist coaching and he has achieved success going in another direction.

“But you would like to see him adapt a little bit in the way Sir Alex Ferguson has. Ferguson has had seven different assistants during the time Wenger has been at Arsenal and he has delegated more. As such there have been fresh voices and fresh methods on the training ground and I think a side needs that when a manager has been at a club as long as Wenger has.”

The striker feels that Wenger’s optimistic belief that FFP will help Arsenal is the reason the Gunners are struggling and that investments will only help them.

“I don’t know if Arsenal can win the Premier League again under Wenger,” he declared. If you can’t do it with a financial advantage, as we are supposed to have, then you would have to reassess it.”
