Rangers eased past a spirited East Fife display to reach the Scottish League Cup quater-finals and set up a clash against Livingston.

Jermaine Defoe, Joe Aribo and debutant Filip Helander were the scorers for the Gers, who in the end, won the game by a comfortable three-goal margin despite few scares from the lower league opponents.

Since then, the game was controlled in a more refined way from the away side. With so many players trying to stake a claim for regular first-team spot, there was no let-up in intensity of their play, which was encouraging to see from the Rangers’ point of view.

They doubled the lead 11 minutes into the second half when Helander turned his effort from close range to effectively seal the tie.

The icing on the cake was done in the 84th minute when a Greg Stewart free-kick was brought down by Jordan Jones for Aribo to score from six-yards out. It was a deserved goal for the midfielder who ran the show for the Gers throughout the game.
