Is This Former Chelsea Manger The Right Man For Liverpool’s Hot Seat?

Share

Another day and more news speculating on the future of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, some media outlets reported that the Liverpool owners had spoken to former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti about the possibility of the Italian taking over from Rodgers at Liverpool.

Ancelotti has not been working since he was released or fired from Real Madrid, based on how you look at it, he did state that he was going to go under the knife and take care of some issues but he has not returned to coaching and might be tempted to going back to England after a successful stint at Chelsea.

Time for the Italian job?

Ancelotti might not have been in football for more than a year but he still has a great reputation and has always done well irrespective of which country he has coached in. Everyone remembers his highly successful stint with AC Milan where he won The UEFA Champions League twice and also brought the Serie A title, among other cups to the club.

Many might not remember but he was the manager who brought Chelsea their first League and Cup double in 2009 and also won Ligue 1 with PSG before winning the 10th European Cup with Real Madrid. Ancelotti is a great man-manager as well and can deal with the big egos while attracting top talent at the club.

Liverpool need someone to take the reins from Rodgers, FSG did state today that they made no contact with Ancelotti to replace the Northern Irishman but no owner in their right mind would accept any such rumour. Rodgers is on thin ice at Liverpool and if he does not get them close to the top four by the end of December, his position at the club could be in peril.

Brendan Rodgers

Ancelotti would be an ideal candidate for any top club in the world but there is one major issue with him signing for Liverpool. The Reds might still hold a lot of romance and history for football purists but they are not a top club anymore, certainly not in terms of the quality at the club. Apart from a couple of players in the team, you cannot club the team as ‘world class’, that was a prevailing feature at most of the teams that Ancelotti managed.

Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG all had star players at the club before Ancelotti arrived. He might have brought in a couple of players here and there but the team was pretty much set for Ancelotti to work with. The Liverpool project has also spoken about getting a young manager at the club and Ancelotti isn’t the young buck that FSG might have envisioned when they took over the club but there really is nothing better than getting a winner at the club and with Ancelotti, they can’t get any worse than what they are now.
