Sheffield United absolutely battered Aston Villa 4-1 at the Bramall Lane to go just two points behind the top. It was an overwhelming performance from Chris Wilder’s men, who just blew Steve Bruce’s tame Villa side.
First-half goals from Jack O’Connell, Mark Duffy and Oliver Norwood set the tone for the Blades, who get their fourth consecutive victory in the league. Billy Sharp scored after the break to heap more misery on the opponents. Anwar El Ghazi netted a consolation, which really mattered for nothing.
Wasn’t called upon to make an array of saves but commanded his box comfortably. Couldn’t do much to keep out the consolation goal.
Gave away a cheap free-kick in a dangerous position against Jack Grealish. Wasn’t very tough for him as Villa failed to land the punches.
Hit the woodwork in a barrage of Sheffield United chances in the first half. A solid performance at the back.
A very good header to open the scoring for the Blades. He never had to do too much defensively.
A good outlet on the right-hand side for attacks. Was defensively sound while covering the areas he needed to.
A composed performance from the left wing-back. United never required that after blowing Villa away.
An action-packed display from Norwood, who hit the crossbar. Scored a well-taken goal and assisted Sheffield United’s opener. A lively presence in the midfield.
Ticked the midfield over. His overall performance went under the radar because partner Norwood was creating chances left, right and centre. Subbed off after an hour.
Scored a very good goal to double the lead for the home side. Was always looking to link up play between the midfield and the attack.
Could have had a hat-trick, but ended up with only one as two strikes were ruled offside. A menace for the poor Villa defenders.
A quiet performance on the face of what his attacking partners were doing.
Came on to add energy in the midfield.
Came on to add defensive solidity after the game was pretty much done.
