A huge boost – This 23-year-old Rangers summer signing could be a key man for Gerrard this season

How Eros Grezda could make a difference for Rangers this term

Rangers have got a massive injury boost as summer signing Eros Grezda has returned to fitness. The Albanian was sent home from national duty with an injury but it was just as a precaution. Hence, the new signing made his Rangers debut by coming on as a 77th-minute substitute.

Grezda, 23, was one of the summer signings that Gerrard oversaw at Ibrox after being appointed as the manager by Rangers.

Having Grezda fully fit is a big boost for Gerrard and co., particularly after a disappointing 1-0 defeat against traditional rivals Celtic before the international break.

Grezda moved to Rangers in the summer from Osijek, following the footsteps of his ex-teammate Borna Barisic. In fact, Grezda had moved to Osijek a year ago and scored 11 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions, guiding the club to a fourth-placed finish last term.

A full Albania international, Grezda is capable of playing anywhere in the attack, but it is on the flank that the 23-year-old usually plays. Given that Jamie Murphy is ruled out for the season, Grezda can aim to grab his spot.

Rangers have looked a little short of options in the final third and Grezda could exactly be the player Gerrard needs now to lift his team. A versatile attacker, the Albanian possesses an abundance of pace, skill set and can give defenders a nightmare with his direct approach.

He is a tricky winger who loves to dribble his way past defenders and has the ability to score from long distance.

Grezda could be the player to provide Rangers with the creativity and chances to find the back of the net. The Gers have looked clueless and flat at times this season with players often not sticking to their roles. Though they have all individually impressed, Gerrard’s side must click as a unit on a consistent basis to challenge for the league’s top prize.

This is why Grezda could be such an important player for Rangers this season. His directness and ability on the ball would make Rangers a terrifying attacking unit, and there’s no doubt the Albanian would come good in no time.

As Rangers begin their Europa League journey this week, Grezda will definitely play a key role for Gerrard. The 23-year-old will certainly be one of Rangers’ biggest driving forces going forward.
