8 Goals, 83% Passing Accuracy – Chelsea Would Be Mad To Swap This Gem For An Aged Real Madrid Star

Why Oscar-Modric swap would be a bad move for Chelsea

There have been recent rumours about Chelsea interested in Luka Modric and Mourinho willing to offer Oscar in a cash plus player deal. These are certainly rumours about deals that are very unlikely to happen considering that Mourinho always wanted Oscar as his first choice number ten over Juan Mata in the first place. Also Mourinho has said Oscar was the one he needed at Real Madrid as well.

Here are three reasons why it would be a bad move if it will ever happen.

Modric is 28, Oscar is 22

Well, Luka Modric is definitely in his peak of his prime and thus, his performances have been commendable this season. But we can also see the fact that the Croatian is nearing 30 and will enter his final stages of his career soon. Oscar on the other hand is much younger and is expected to serve Chelsea for a long time. Trading Oscar in a Cash+Player deal for an instant one season success can prove very negative considering the pedigree of Oscar’s talents for a 22-year old full Brazilian International.

Chelsea will struggle with Financial Fair Play

I don’t know how these rumours are even surfacing, albeit the interview of FIFA agent Francis Gallardo with the Spanish television station La Sexta. Modric is certainly very expensive and is Real Madrid’s main playmaker this season. They would not consider bids below £50 million and would undermine the value of Oscar in any deal considering that despite Oscar’s amazing performances, Modric has been much better for Real Madrid this season, obviously due to more experience and being in his prime. So including Oscar in an expensive cash plus player deal will hamper Chelsea’s financial balance when they hunt for a striker, which is the main priority for the Blues.

Oscar has been the manager’s favourite.

It has been so obvious this season that Oscar is the manager’s favourite. Despite having the double time Blues’ Player of the Year winner in Juan Mata about to enter his prime years as a trequartista in his squad, Jose Mourinho chose a younger playmaker in Oscar as his first choice. Oscar puts unparalleled work rate and has shown his ability to play any type of game in a Chelsea shirt.

Despite having played in various positions, Oscar has managed to score 8 and create 43 chances for this team in the Premier League adding to his impressive passing range which stands at 83%.

He has played a deep role as a passer; he has played wide as a winger as well as the main creator behind the striker. He offers a lot of versatility and creativity to the team. Oscar has been second best to Hazard this season but he is quietly letting Hazard play the advanced role while he does the passing and defending, while in Hazard’s absence, Oscar has proved to be irreplaceable, especially after his performance against Paris Saint Germain. This only shows that Oscar is a mature player and arguably the best among similar aged players.
