Three reasons why Arsenal should sign Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina in this Summer Transfer Window

As I write this, Arsenal are yet to host Liverpool in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the Emirates later on Sunday. With the Premier League slowly but surely getting out of grip from the Gunners with each passing game and the Champions League clash in the knockout stages against Bayern Munich looking too tall a wall to climb, Arsene Wenger’s men may continue their trophy drought, a phase that has now lasted over the last eight ‘barren’ years.

Arsenal’s wafer thin squad has been time and again exposed over the course of the campaign and Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to splash the cash might just be the difference between a piece of silverware and an empty cabinet. With the newly signed PUMA deal, Wenger will most probably handed an enormous transfer kitty in the summer, he needs to sign players who can invigorate a major title challenge or a cup fight for the next campaign. One such dazzling talent is Italian side Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado. Here, we present three reasons why Wenger should splash the cash for the highly rated Columbian.

1. Persistence for the right player to enhance the squad depth

If major tabloids are to be believed, the Gunners are planning to move in and offer £15million for him in the summer with Wenger being a huge admirer of the youngster. Cuadrado continues to catch the eye with an array of fine performances for Fiorentina and being blessed with the ability to run past defenders, as if he weren’t there is one of his major strengths. The Columbian has blistering pace, trickery up his sleeve and the willingness to take defenders on, a rare sight given his age and experience. So far this season he had bagged 6 goals and 7 assists (including internationals) which is a decent stat.

2. His ability /Potential: The Columbian has good pace and strength which makes him suitable for the premier league. He can also play as a striker too just off the main striker. Arsenal can hence shoot two birds by the same stone, getting someone who is equally adept at playing in the wings or a support striker if needed. Cuadrado is part-owned by Fiorentina and their Italian rivals Udinese, meaning that negotiations to bring him on board could be difficult, but Italian teams can rarely resist the temptations if the right offer was put at the table. It is believed that German Giants Bayern Munich are on the radar too and a good performance in the World Cup in Brazil could sky rocket his price, thus Wenger needs to move fast and possibly come to an agreement pre summer before the showcase event in Sambaland.

3. Individual instincts

Cuadrado is more like a individual skill oriented player who is very different from other Arsenal midfielders who rely on link-up plays more. But, this may be a blessing in disguise for Arsenal as they miss such player in the squad. Given Arsenal’s plethora of midfielders to choose from, they perhaps can add yet another player in the starting eleven who can turn games on their head or by the scruff of the neck. It remains to be seen whether Wenger does go on to buy the Columbian but make no mistake, Arsenal can really land a major transfer coup by landing the Columbian.
