5 Unsung Heroes In Premier League This Season

With half of the Premier League season done and dusted there have been a few shine out stars so far. Jamie Vardy, Odion Ighalo, Riyad Mahrez, Mesut Ozil and Dele Alli, to name a few but there are a lot of players who do not get the adulation that they deserve.

These players might be hidden behind the star power of some of the bigger players in their respective clubs but each of them is equally important to their team and for some of them, they have helped the team achieve their goals, at least till the halfway mark.

Here are five unsung heroes from the Premier League season so far.

5. Etienne Capoue

The French midfielder might have thought that his time in the Premier League was all but done after he was put on the transfer list by Mauricio Pochettino and his time in England was saved by Quique Sanchez Flores who signed him up for newly promoted Watford.

While the season should have been a struggle, Watford are flying high thanks to the contributions of the entire team and the plaudits might be going to Odion Ighalo but the hard work put in by Capoue in the heart of midfield cannot be ignored any longer.

4. Jack Butland

The Stoke goalkeeper’s stock has certainly risen this season with some great performances and has made most Stoke City fans forget about Asmir Begovic. Butland’s performances are one reason why Stoke City are in the top 10.

Butland has been doing extremely well for the team and his season could well culminate in him becoming England’s number one if he continues performing as he has been for Stoke. We may see him move to a bigger club in near future with Liverpool already showing interest in him.

3. Robbie Brady

Norwich looked like fodder for the other teams in the league at the start of the season but Alex Neil has made his team tough to beat and currently the side lie 15th in the league table. They might not have the best defensive record but Robbie Brady has been one of the best players this season.

The winger has done his bit in helping Norwich stay out of the relegation zone and certainly has started turning heads this season.

2. Troy Deeney

Everyone seems to be talking about Odion Ighalo this season but his striker partner also deserves a lot of praise. Troy Deeney’s Wikipedia page is a must read but his performances on the pitch are also doing the talking.

The striker has six goals and five assists this season in the league and certainly has been one of the reasons why Watford are doing so well. Surprisingly, the rumour mill has linked him with a transfer move to Arsenal FC.

  1. Christian Fuchs

Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez might steal the limelight for their goals, N’Golo Kante might be doing the same in midfield for Leicester but another new signing deserves a lot of praise for gelling with the high-flying foxes.

Christian Fuchs came in as a free agent for Leicester and the 29-year-old defender has been exceptional for the Foxes down the left side of the defence. He doesn’t seem out of touch with the league and has certainly done his bit in keeping Leicester flying high in the Premier League this season.
