Jose Mourinho’s chances of becoming the next Manchester United manager are growing as each day passes. It was widely reported that the Portuguese was the man chosen to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson after the Scot left the Manchester team, but that couldn’t materialize. Louis van Gaal reportedly has only a couple of games to save his job and it could be Jose Mourinho taking over the duties by the side-line come the New Year.
That would be the perfect timing for Mourinho as he could stamp his authority in the team and make a few changes, which Manchester United have needed for quite a while. Mourinho might get a thick wad of cash to spend on the team if he does takeover, but that would mean the end of the road for a few Manchester United players.
5. Juan Mata
Manchester United’s most expensive signing at one point of time; Juan Mata has certainly starred for the club ever since David Moyes signed him up despite him being the Chelsea player of the season twice in a row.
Jose Mourinho didn’t think he was good enough or in fact, didn’t fit his system at Chelsea and he was promptly sold him to one of his rivals. If Mourinho does end up at Manchester United, it could well be time for Mata to pack his bags and search for a new club.
4. Michael Carrick
Carrick might be one of the players who have done decently this season but his legs just aren’t there anymore and that could be the main reason as to why he is sold by Mourinho. The 34-year-old Englishman has played nine games this season, but Mourinho would want more from the midfielder.
Mourinho would have plans for his midfield which normally includes a proper defensive midfielder and a playmaker, Carrick might have the passing range but his movement isn’t the greatest anymore, thus his time at United could well be coming to an end if Mourinho join the club.
3. Marouane Fellaini
The Belgian still isn’t sure of what kind of role he plays in Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United. He is sometimes deployed as a defensive midfielder and sometimes as an attacking outlet for the team. Fellaini was brought into Manchester United by David Moyes but hasn’t made himself a fixture in the team.
Jose Mourinho might not want to keep the Belgian who isn’t the most mobile player in the team and could still get a decent amount if he does decide to sell the 28-year-old.
2. Victor Valdes
Really shouldn’t be a shock to anyone, Valdes didn’t get a lot of chances under Van Gaal and with the former Barcelona having a history of bust-ups with Mourinho, he could well be the first one out of the club and quickly.
Valdes hasn’t endeared himself to Van Gaal but has stuck around the club so far, this time if Mourinho is elected as the new manager, Valdes would probably be looking to take any offer that comes his way or Mourinho could permanently send the Spanish goalkeeper to play in the reserves.
Bastian Schweinsteiger
This one might be a little tough to call, Bastian hasn’t really wowed anyone with his performances in the season thus far and with age being a factor for the German, he might not have that big a role to play in Mourinho’s United.
The midfielder isn’t the fastest in the league either and the club do have a lot of midfielders, they need to get a few more young legs in the team and that could mean the end of the line for the 31-year-old, who could be looking for a move back to Germany.
