5 Injured Premier League Players Who Have Been Sorely Missed By Their Clubs Including Manchester United And Liverpool Stars

Share

There was one shining aspect of Arsenal’s recent 1-0 loss to Chelsea and that was the return of Alexis Sanchez to the team. The Chilean had missed a number of games for the Gunners due to a hamstring injury but him being back will surely give a boost to the team as they look to win a Premier League title after more than a decade.

Arsenal would look like a completely different side if Sanchez was back in the team and playing at his best, his creativity, power, pace, shooting and running would give them more firepower and with Mesut Ozil playing as he is, it wouldn’t be a surprise that this return is the most anticipated one for Arsene Wenger.

There are however a number of big players who are injured or have been injured for a long part of the season and we look at five such players from the Premier League who are sorely missed by their respective clubs.

Daniel Sturridge

What Liverpool fans wouldn’t give to see a fit Daniel Sturridge play for their club, the English striker has barely kicked a ball under Jurgen Klopp and with the German employing a game which requires a striker who is willing to make quick dashes and runs it is a shame to see Sturridge spend so much time out of the squad.

The 26-year-old would have provided Liverpool with the firepower that they so have missed this season and certainly could have helped them win a lot more games, he should return soon but nobody knows how long he will stay fit.

Luke Shaw

Manchester United’s season didn’t start off all that well when the young left-back picked up a horrific injury in the UEFA Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven. Shaw was one of the players in form not only for United but also in the Premier League before a badly timed tackle on him ended his season.

Shaw could have helped United get a lot more attacking impetus from the left side had he been fit, the good news for United is that Shaw is making great progress and should be back to his best next season or even make an appearance before this season ends.

Vincent Kompany

Another defender that a Manchester club has missed dearly is Vincent Kompany. The Belgian defender and Manchester City captain hasn’t played as many minutes as he would have liked and that has led to a pretty porous Manchester City defence.

Kompany isn’t just someone who defends well, he is a leader and that has been sorely missed in the back line for the Citizens. Manuel Pelligrini states that Kompany should return to full team action in a couple of weeks and that could be pivotal as City chase another Premier League crown.

Tim Krul

Newcastle’s number one goalkeeper suffered a range of injuries which have kept him out of the team severely denting the side’s bid to avoid relegation. Steve McClaren would have hoped for Krul to play a major role this season but the 27-year-old has barely kicked a ball.

Krul is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and his loss is a massive one for Newcastle, hopefully he can play a big role for the Magpies next season when he is fit.

Max Gradel

While Bournemouth and Eddie Howe have been one of the feel good stories of the year, you do need to wonder if they could have been higher up the table if not for the injuries picked up by the side. Max Gradel was a former Bournemouth player who joined Leeds United but his best spell came for Ligue 1 side St. Etienne.

He returned to the Premier League this season after scoring 17 goals last season for the French side but a cruciate ligament injury ended his season for Bournemouth.
