Premier League opinion: 4 exciting youngsters to watch out for

The Premier League has always produced some great talents since its inception in 1992. Its most decorated player, Ryan Giggs, made his league debut at the age of 17 and that example has been followed ever since.

With more money than ever now in the Premier League, clubs can invest heavily in their academies and recruit the best in the country and abroad. Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, two of the poster boys for the Premier League, had never been afraid of giving youth a chance, and long may that tradition continue.

Phil Foden

Last season, we saw more than a couple of youngsters have a breakthrough season. There was Declan Rice of West Ham, David Brooks of Bournemouth, Dwight McNeil of Burnley and Phil Foden of Manchester City, who at one point or another, were integral to their respective clubs.

Let’s have a look at players who could have a similar impact this season, keeping it down to one player per club.

Callum Hudson-Odoi – Chelsea

The Chelsea winger made the break into the first-team last season but he only got his chance in the second half of the season.

He was used more often in cup competitions but after signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge, the 18-year-old will be expected to take on a more senior role after the departure of Eden Hazard. With Frank Lampard at the helm, expect him to explode into the Premier League this season.

Mason Greenwood – Manchester United

The 17-year-old made his first appearance for the first-team in a memorable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final, and you wouldn’t put it past him to be experiencing similar moments in a few years.

The ambidextrous forward is a natural finisher, and with Romelu Lukaku’s future in doubt and a right-wing spot up for grabs, Greenwood could be crucial to how Manchester United’s season goes.

He’s a natural goalscorer and has the potential to be one of United’s greatest academy graduates.

Rhian Brewster – Liverpool

Liverpool have a rich history of nurturing strikers like Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush, and 19-year-old Rhian Brewster could be the next in line to inherit their place.

With Jurgen Klopp needing some backup for his frightening front-three and Daniel Sturridge having already left the club, Brewster can be expected to strengthen this dominant Liverpool side.

Troy Parrott – Tottenham Hotspur

The 17-year-old has looked very bright in the pre-season and might solve so many of Mauricio Pochettino’s concerns.

Harry Kane’s ankle has been a cause for concern for a couple of years now and they’ve had to depend far too much on Fernando Llorente, who changed the style of play entirely. Parrott would not bring wholesale changes if he was asked to deputize for Harry Kane.
