Three ways Arsenal can line up with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal fans will be fairly pleased with the way they have done business in the recently concluded January window. With deals done for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and a prolific striker like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who came in for £56m, a lot of the fans are relishing the prospect of watching them in action together. In addition to that, star playmaker Mesut Ozil has also extended his contract and barring the losses of Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez, it is safe to say that Arsenal have enjoyed a good time over the last month.

With the remaining half of the season ahead of us, it becomes imperative for the Gunners to rally themselves back and get back to winning ways. Their recent loss to Swansea City aside, Arsene Wenger’s men look solid enough to take on new challenges and make a solid push for a top-four finish at the very least. Hence, with that in mind, let’s take a look at three ways in which Arsenal can line up this season with both Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang.

3-5-2 with Mkhitaryan occupying a deeper role

With Mesut Ozil’s contract situation sorted, Wenger is now free to build his team around the German superstar. Mkhitaryan could occupy the role of a box-to-box midfielder of sorts with a defensive-minded player alongside him (preferably Granit Xhaka or Mohamed Elneny). Ozil would act as the attacking midfielder up front, with Lacazette and Aubameyang playing as centre-forwards. However, in doing so, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey might find themselves gracing the bench.

4-3-3 with Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan occupying wide roles

Given the way Wilshere has turned things around for himself, it would be criminal to not include him when he’s ready for action. The same applies for Aaron Ramsey as well. Hence, in this formation, there will be ample space for all the key players. Wilshere/Ramsey would be a part of an undisturbed midfield, comprising either of them, Xhaka/Elneny and Ozil, with Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan playing as the wingers. Lacazette would lead the line.

Now, this might be a tad bit unfair for Lacazette but the fact is that he has failed to deliver results for a good majority of the season so far. With Aubameyang in the mix, it is an unsaid fact that Lacazette might find his chances limited but in using this formation, everybody would get a fair chance. Also, when one considers how solid Aubameyang has been for Dortmund in the last couple of seasons, it makes him a shoo-in for the role of the central striker and by doing so, Wenger would still be able to make full use of all his creative players.
