Three Transfers That Wolves Must Complete This Summer

As Wolves look towards attempting survival in the Premier League next season, they must be considering the turnover of at least a percentage of their squad in the summer. Their fans will expect them to spend again and although some of the players that have arrived already look like they would slot into a lot of Premier League teams, some of the players are a throwback to the previous eras of Wolves and will need to be moved on so that the team can continue to progress.

Now that there is a big gap between Wolves and 3rd place, boss Nuno Espirito Santo can begin to assess his players through the prism of Premier League football and work out who he will be taking with him and who he will be leaving behind. These are the players he should sell, loan and keep.

Sell – Danny Batth

Batth hasn’t played since Wolverhampton Wanderers were destroyed by Aston Villa, where he was responsible for at least one of the goals conceded at Villa Park. Since then manager Nuno Espirito Santo has reverted to playing Ryan Bennett on the right-hand side of the three-man defence, which is clearly the combination he favours.

With Conor Coady stepping up a gear this year and Wily Boly proving to be one of the best centre-backs around, there is not much room in this team for Danny Batth. Though he is the club captain, when they go up to the Premier League, Santo should look to strengthen his defence and there would be no room for Batth.

LOAN – Morgan Gibbs-White

Morgan Gibbs-White is an exciting attacking talent who scored for England in their exciting under 17 World Cup winning journey. Although he has appeared 7 times off the bench for Wolves, he has yet to start this season. Next season, Wolves will be playing in the Premier League which would be a big step up for an 18-year-old and it might be time for him to get regular game time and prove that he can stand up to the rigours of a whole season.

With a player as young as Gibbs-White, there is also the chance that he will develop massively over the summer but if he does not, then a loan to a Championship club would make a lot of sense.

KEEP – Benik Afobe

Benik Afobe has begun to find his feet at the club where he made a name for himself previously and was the man of the match against Burton Albion last time out. His last foray into the Premier League with Bournemouth was unsuccessful but under Nuno Espirito Santo and Wolves faithful that love the big man, he should make the jump and begin to perform at the top table of English football.
