3 Things We Learned From Arsenal’s Heart Breaking Defeat vs Manchester City

Share

Manchester City vs Arsenal – After the 2 sides dominating the Premier League clashed at the Etihad, we look at the biggest talking points.

1. Manchester City are the Premier League’s best

Aguero

In a game most of us were expecting to be close and cagey, Manchester City battered the Gunners into submission is a 6-3 annihilation at the Etihad Stadium. After becoming the first team to come back from 2 goals down against Bayern Munich to win since AS Roma in 2008 and flexing their goalscoring muscle against the Premier League leaders, it seems that the City board were right to sack Roberto Mancini to hire Manuel Pellegrini, as he has given them a new dimension in attack and has also integrated his experience in La Liga into his side’s style, and it has proven highly successful. Only the reigning European champions have left the blue side of Manchester with anything more than a loss, and after hitting Arsenal and Tottenham for 6, while also smashing 4 past Manchester United, fellow big guns Liverpool and Chelsea will not be relishing the trip to the Etihad stadium when it rolls around.

2. Mesut Ozil is a big game flop (At-least till now)

Mesut Ozil

Playing man of the match games against Cardiff City and Stoke City gave Arsenal hope that they may have filled the void left by Samir Nasri. This may be true in most part, but in the games against Napoli, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and now Manchester City, he has been invisible and completely ineffective. Of course it isn’t his fault that Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla are injured so cannot shoulder some of the creative burden, while Olivier Giroud isn’t good enough for a club of Arsenal’s stature. But that cannot be an excuse, Arsenal paid over £42m for the German, and he should play like a big money signing all of the time, not just when he feels like it.

3. Arsenal have new found steel

Mertesacker

In previous seasons, we have seen Arsenal go one or two goals down and fade away, losing confidence and playing like the game is already away from them. However, it is now different. They may have been on the wrong side of a 6-3 hammering, but they gave it a go, and some of their players kept going until the end. Per Mertesacker never gave up and was annoyed at Mesut Ozil for leaving the pitch straight after the game in a cocky manner, acting like he was too good for the rest of the team. If they had kept themselves together, they could have kept pushing after they clawed it back to 3-2. With a little more quality, Arsenal could go far.
