3 Things Moyes Should Do To Make Manchester United Title Contenders Again

With Manchester United’s inconsistency and often mediocre performances, something must change before they are left behind in the title race.

3 Things Moyes Should Do To Save United’s season

1. Give Chicharito a bigger role

Chicharito

United’s supersub, Chicharito is a natural born goalscorer and should be given a bigger role by David Moyes, especially with their current lack of goal scoring prowess. Although he is often overlooked for his lack of overall talent, Ashley Young has been given a chance, and he doesn’t exactly set the world alight. It is the logical decision to have Robin van Persie leading the line on most occasions, but like in recent times, when the Holland international is injured, Wayne Rooney lacks the predatorial instinct of the Mexican and cannot always give United the inspiration in the final third they need, while the former Guadalajara man has proven on several occasions, that he can. If Moyes can get Chicharito performing, and producing on a regular basis, it may just be what the former Everton man needs to win over some of his many doubters.

2. Drop Tom Cleverley for Anderson

Tom Cleverley and Anderson are not 2 names that will even enter the imagination of the most biased United fan when it comes to naming the best midfielders in the Premier League, and rightly so, but Anderson can offer assurance on the ball and also decent passing ability, while Tom Cleverley is, to put it simply, just plain awful. Once described as the next Paul Scholes and often defended as he is a ‘young player’, the England international is now 24 and can no longer afford the excuses given by several managers and players. Anderson isn’t dynamic, he isn’t a goalscorer, a midfield general, playmaker or a goalscorer, so in fairness to Moyes for not playing him as he is also quite useless, he can still offer the United team a little more muscle, while he can also keep the midfield ticking better than the former Wigan man. Even if it is just until January, Anderson should be given the chance Ferguson didn’t.

3. Revamp the defence in January

United defence is getting old

Rio Ferdinand has always relied on Nemanja Vidic for stability, and often takes a lot of the Serbian’s credit, but now that Vidic is also growing old, the former England international has been exposed. Although Vidic is ageing, he is still strong in the air and can lead from the back, but would now be more suited to a young understudy that he can lean on, instead of covering up the mistakes made by his supposed world class partner. Phil Jones sometimes plays like he could one day be something special, but inconsistencies have marred his reputation and may have to stay on the sidelines for a while longer. Meanwhile Patrice Evra has also struggled and is getting older. A pair of new centre-backs and a new left-back should help in January.
