Daniel Sturridge is fighting a losing battle despite declaring himself fit for Liverpool. It seems that Jurgen Klopp is not willing to take a risk with the English striker as he stated that Sturridge should spend a little more time in establishing and maintaining his fitness.
“I don’t want to see him in training because everybody sees him training and they think, ‘Oh, come on, bring him into the team, we need his quality’, said Klopp.
“No. We really, really have to be patient now. We have to wait. We have to train. We have to give the body the right information, and if he can do this, then maybe we can change something. Otherwise we always have to stay here in this situation for the next 10 years and always talk about, ‘Where is Daniel Sturridge, can you play him?’
“We have to try and change something. We have tried everything else, so we must try this now.”
The 26-year-old has shown that he hasn’t lost his ability to score goals but his fitness and injury record would be the biggest problems if he wants to establish himself as the number one striker for Liverpool and England.
The attacker has the pace to trouble any defence up top but the lack of matches for Liverpool would be a worry and they might want to get another striker into the club. Christian Benteke and Divock Origi might be great options but Benteke is a plan B for the club while Origi is extremely raw and needs a few years to develop and get better.
With the transfer window coming up, Jurgen Klopp might be tempted to dip into the market but he could also spend some time and gauge which player might move in the summer and that is when he could try to sign one of these three strikers, guaranteed to change the fortunes of Liverpool.
The French forward was subject to many rumours of his move away from Lyon in the summer but he decided to stay put and signed an extension. However, things haven’t been all rosy for him or for Lyon this season and he could be looking for a new challenge.
Liverpool were one of the clubs who wanted to sign him or at least were linked with him in the summer and the 24-year-old could well be looking at England for a chance to prove his ability in a tougher league. Lacazette is probably one of the best finishers in the world at the moment and after his amazing goal scoring exploits in the last two seasons, who would bet against him doing great in England?
This has been a career defining season for Gonzalo Higuain at Napoli, though he has always scored goals, it is his performances this year that have set him apart. With 18 goals from just 21 games this season, the 28-year-old is in some fine goal scoring form and could well be looking for a bigger move to finish his career.
The Argentine however seems to have found a nice club to enjoy his football, away from the spotlight of the media and this year seems to be one where Napoli could win the Serie A. Higuain might take a lot of persuasion to come but his movement and ability to run onto the through ball would certainly make him a great option to replace Sturridge at Liverpool.
Arguably the hottest striker in the Bundesliga this season, the Gabon international has proved that he can lead the line for Dortmund as he has bagged 27 goals in just 26 games from all competitions. Aubameyang is a perfect scorer, he has pace, finishing ability and with Klopp managing Liverpool, the pair could well meet once again.
Dortmund though would not want to lose out on their prized possession but a big money move cannot be ruled out if Klopp does want to revamp his squad and get the 26-year-old in place of the always ailing Daniel Sturridge.
