3 Reasons Why Liverpool Should Sign This Budget Defender From Southampton

Share

Liverpool definitely need reinforcements in the summer transfer window and there are some places in the team which need immediate attention. The need for a defensive midfielder has already been taken for with the transfer of Emre Can and if Alberto Moreno joins them, the left back crisis could get solved. But Liverpool’s main area of concern was the defence last season and they must address that if they are to excel next season. Liverpool, thus need centre backs who would rise upto the situations and do better for the team than the current defenders. Liverpool have already taken a look at few options and one of the most pragmatic is Dejan Lovern of Southampton. We take a look at three reasons why we feel Lovern would be a fit at Liverpool.

Fonte and Lovren Southampton

1. The age factor

Liverpool have abstained themselves from any players who do not have a lot of years ahead of them and have decided to go for players who can be nurtured into stars of the future. Dejan Lovern is just 24 years old and he has a long playing career at the club in front of him, which makes him a lucrative proposition. Apart from that Liverpool would not have to pay overtly for Lovern as they are already in the negotiations with Southampton for the transfer of Lallana and a formula can be worked out, as the clubs would like to believe. Getting a player of Lovern’s quality for a cheap price would be a beneficial situation for Liverpool and they should not let go of this opportunity to sign Lovern.

2. Experienced campaigner

Dejan Lovern is a year old in the Premier League and that puts him in a better place than many others who are still to get a taste of English football. It takes time for anybody to get the feel of the English game and Lovern has managed to do it wonderfully within a season. It is now his second season and we can expect him to do better than the previous season. Liverpool would get a dependable player in him and he can provide the defensive stability that they have been lacking this term. Lovern has done well to cope up with the physical aspect of the game and Liverpool would be fortunate to have player who can stand up to the physicality of the opponents.

3. New blood

The old guards of Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel has failed to live upto the expectations this term and often the team has suffered for their inability. To add to that, both these players are always being linked to a move out and it is not sure how long they will don the Liverpool jersey. They have proved to be inadequate and not the answer to Liverpool’s defence problem. In this scenario, Liverpool already have players like Sakho and Ilori in the squad and a new man like Lovern would only add to the quality of the team. He can form a formidable partnership with the other youngsters and man the Liverpool back for a long time.
