3 reasons Why Tottenham Should Sell This £11million Rated Star To Roma

Share

Serie A outfit AS Roma, have expressed interest in signing Tottenham winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, in the ongoing January transfer window, but the north Londoners aren’t too keen to let the French speedster go.

Since arriving the White Hart Lane from Marseille in the summer transfer window for £11million, the 21-year-old has played only 36 minutes of Premier League football and started just a League Cup game in all his 11 appearances across all competitions.

Having spent just half a year of the 5-year deal he signed in August, it’s understandable why Pochettino wouldn’t want to let him leave after just a short while, but if there are any reasons N’Koudou should be let go, they are these:

He won’t be breaking into the first team soon

With competition for places so high within the Tottenham ranks, clinching a starting berth in the first XI seems impossible for the winger, and he just wouldn’t be breaking into it anytime soon.

He is turning out to be another Clinton N’jie – who moved the other way during his transfer after failing to hold down any claim for more regular playing time.

While 5 months seems a little time for a new player to break into a star-studded team as Tottenham’s, the early signs aren’t promising for N’Koudou. His only start, which he didn’t finish, came in the EFL Cup game against Liverpool, and in all the other 10 appearances he has made, he has had to come off the bench as a late sub in most of them.

A loan term away might be a better option if Tottenham don’t want to let him go permanently, but his future at the White Hart Lane just doesn’t seem guaranteed right now.

He was never a priority signing

Of the 4 signings Pochettino made last summer, N’Koudou wasn’t top of the list of preference. Wanyama and Sissoko were, and it’s why they have started and played more games than the 21-year-old.

Agreed that he was procured to come and add width to a squad light on natural wingers, with his pace and strength the factors to have attracted the club’s scouts, but he hasn’t been able to do just that, as breaking into the pecking order is proving more than difficult. And that’s with Lamela out of contention due to injury.

Sissoko and Son both come ahead of him in the selection process, and it doesn’t appear that order will be changing soon.

The French winger is expendable, as he wasn’t a top priority signing in the first place. That status too doesn’t look likely to change anytime soon.

He doesn’t fit their playing style

During N’Koudou’s Marseille days last season, he was dispossessed more often ( 3 times per 90) than any of his teammates, while he ranked first for the number of unsuccessful touches (2.5 per 90).

That hasn’t changed much, with his inability to hold on to the ball and challenge in aerial duels still great disadvantages.

It can be argued he still has a lot of growing to do, but that is being hindered with the lack of regular playing time that won’t be coming to an end anytime soon.

Tottenham are competing on all fronts and aren’t able to make up the time to experiment with such talented player.

An exit, temporary or permanent, seems the best for both club and player.
