What they’re gaining is a dominant, no-nonsense defender who is equally good in the air as well as with the ball at his feet, due to his Portuguese roots. Opponent strikers certainly won’t be given room to bully the West Ham defence, as Fonte is a very good communicator and organizer at the back.
