3 Reasons Why This English Defender Deserves Another Chance At Manchester United

Share

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United have found some dangerous form midway through the season as they are now unbeaten in their last 9 Premier League games. The squad at the Old Trafford is easily one of the strongest in the league but the manager is evidently not happy with the options at his disposal this season. He has not favored a few players in crunch games this season and one such player who has now lost the trust of the manager is defender Luke Shaw. The English full-back was one of the most exciting players in England at a time but constant injuries and lack of form  have seen him slip into just another player in the league. It is looking more and more like his Manchester United career is over but here are three reasons why he deserves another chance at the Old Trafford:

His potential:

Having joined the Red Devils from Southampton a few years ago, Luke Shaw still remains as one of the most impressive players in his position in England. In his time at the St Marys, Shaw established himself as the first choice under Ronald Koeman and helped the Saints to some important victories. He also broke into the national team in that form but his move to Manchester United changes everything.

He was drafted into the first team straight away at the Old Trafford and was their first choice left-back for a while. Though he was impressive at times, the pressure and the responsibility of his new club were too much for him to handle. Ever since, he has failed to string a prolonged role in the first team and that might be the only thing that is stopping him from realizing his potential. Surely, Shaw is a superb full-back and Manchester United should not let such talent slip out of their hands.

His age:

The English international, who has 8 games for the national side and has made more than 80 Premier League appearances turns 22 after 6 months. He is still relatively at the start of his career and has already achieved some unthinkable things. He has failed to impress for a couple of seasons now but is still a player who is learning the trade and Mourinho would be harsh to not stick with him after just an year. The 21-year old is one of the best players in this position in the squad and he will only get better the more game time he gets. So United are better off by giving him more time to settle in, to try and reap the benefits of his quality later in the future.

Lack of replacements:

Although the Red Devils have the likes of Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind to play in that position this season, Luke Shaw remains the only player who fits the style of play at the club. Mourinho is not happy with either the Italian or the Dutchman and he will have to look into the transfer market to replace Luke Shaw if he makes the move. But there are hardly any viable options at the left-back spot which might leave Mourinho’s side a bit weak in this position. Shaw is a top class player who has what it takes to grow on to become a world class player and Manchester United are better off sticking with him , rather than trying to replace him with an overpriced defender.
