3 loan deals Sheffield United must complete before August 31

Sheffield United have had a solid start to the season, sitting 7th in the Championship table after 5 games played.

But with one of the smaller squads in the division, Chris Wilder needs to bulk up his team with few additions before the loan transfer window closes at the end of this month.

The Blades are working with a relatively thin squad and they cannot afford to keep it that way if they are to challenge for the play-off spots.

Keeping that in mind, here are three loan deals Wilder must complete to ensure he has a complete squad to help Sheffield United enjoy a good season.

Scott Hogan (Aston Villa)

The Blades must splash a huge amount on wages to bring Scott Hogan from Aston Villa.

Hogan doesn’t appear to be central to Steve Bruce’s plans at Villa Park after Jonathan Kodjia returned from injury. He has scored just 10 goals in 54 appearances and sending him out on loan would be the best thing Villa can do.

While Wilder has the likes of David McGoldrick, Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp in his strike force, Hogan would give Sheffield a different dimension to their attack.

Even though the 26-year-old has been hampered by injury issues throughout his spell with Villa, Hogan has still shown glimpses of being an instinctive goalscorer.

Ryan Christie (Celtic)

Sheffield need a bit of strengthening in the midfield department despite adding Olivier Norwood this summer. And Wilder would do a wonderful job if manages to convince Celtic’s Ryan Christie to join forces at the Bramall Lane.

Christie spent last season on loan at Aberdeen and made 32 league appearances for them, scoring four goals. The 23-year-old is not in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans, and joining Sheffield on a season-long loan deal wouldn’t be a bad move for Christie.

Christie’s addition would enable the likes of Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick to score more. He is a creative midfielder and would boost the Blades’ ambitions of securing a play-off spot.

Danny Simpson (Leicester City)

The Blades should consider a move to bring Danny Simpson on board, with the Leicester City defender falling down the pecking order at the Premier League club.

Simpson, 31, is effectively the third choice now at the King Power Stadium, with Leicester bolstering their full-back options under Claude Puel.

While Sheffield have made a decent start to the Championship season, Wilder’s squad still appears to need work, and Simpson could be a shrewd addition for them.

Simpson would help improve Sheffield’s options in defence and bring more experience to Wilder’s dressing room.
