Three Clubs Charlie Taylor Could Sign For If He Leaves Leeds
Garry Monk has spoken publicly about the disappointing way in which Charlie Taylor is ending his Leeds United career. The manager believes his young full-back has been poorly advised and he’s probably correct. Taylor refused to play Leeds’ last game of the season at Wigan and is going out on a real low.
Regardless of talent, no footballer is owed a living and in this regard, Leeds have been extremely good to Taylor. Having given him a professional contract, Leeds have nurtured Taylor’s talent and helped him to improve to the level he is now at; a potential Premier League defender. He would have done well to repay them a little better than he has now and it’s a shame to say that he has shown the club and its supporters no loyalty whatsoever at this stage.
Taylor had already caused a stir last summer when handing in a transfer request. However, the club refused point blank to sell him. Taylor is out of contract next month and will now get his wish to join a new club. But where might he end up? Here are three possible destinations:
West Ham United
With Aaron Cresswell having had time on the sidelines, West Ham may still be in the hunt for a left-back this summer. They have already taken Sam Byram from Leeds and clearly trust the players coming from Leeds’ system. Taylor fits the bill for West Ham since he is an attacking full-back and would most likely be their no.1 choice immediately.
Newcastle United
Paul Dummett has shown incredible fitness again this season and is a thoroughly capable defender. His lack of ability in the final third when getting forward from left-back is a concern though, and he may not start next season as the first choice for Rafa Benitez. Jesus Gamez, Achraf Lazaar, and Massadio Haidara may all be fearing for their places in the squad and it appears a new attack minded left-back is what they need.
Manchester United
Let’s face it; Jose Mourinho is clearly not too keen on Luke Shaw and will definitely attempt to sign a new left-back. Taylor may well fit the bill for Man United as he’s young, British and talented.
We feel that Taylor’s representatives will encourage offers from the likes of Man United and Liverpool, and should they fail to materialise, then clubs like West Ham could be on their radar. This may take the summer to sort out.
