3 Players Who Could Follow Luke Shaw at Old Trafford – Manchester United

Share

With the likes of Ander Hererra and Luke Shaw joining Manchester United in just a space of 24 hours, it is believed that the Red Devils are finally conducting their transfer recruits in a swift way thanks to executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward. The Red Devils are desperate to get themselves back on track after a disastrous 2013-14 Premier league season with a new era under legendary Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal set to be ushered for the Old Trafford faithful.

Today we take a look at United’s transfer targets and analyze on which are the probable three players who could follow in Ander Hererra and Luke Shaw’s footsteps to Old Trafford.

1. Memphis Depay:

The 20 year old attacking left winger who can also play just off the main striker up front has had a productive World Cup despite donning the substitute role for the Netherlands side. It is believed that Louis Van Gaal wants to take the PSV Eindhoven youngster to Old Trafford along with him as the Dutch legendary manager values Depay as one of the major utility players in his 4-3-3 system. Depay has scored 2 goals and grabbed an assist in just 63 minutes of action for the Oranjees in Brazil and is already being tipped to switched loyalties in the summer.

Despite Depay being deployed on the wings, the player wins almost all his headed duels and has an average 53% winnable one on tackles. This means he can be used as a different attacking outlet on the wings which will allow his team mates to run at every second balls.

But it looks like no deal is possible before the end of World Cup. The player was reluctant to be drawn into distractions about his club future earlier stating in a press conference, “I’m now in the World Cup and after that we will see. I have a contact with PSV until 2017, so we will have to see what happens in the future.”

2. Stefan De Vrij:

Stefan De Vrij

If reports are to be believed, Manchester United are weighing up Feynoord ace Stefan De Vrij, who has already impressed with his showing at the World Cup. A centre half has to be the major priority for the Red Devils after losing Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan and Rio Ferdinand at the end of last season.

While the Thomas Vermaelen rumours have died down over the past few weeks, it is believed that van Gaal’s persuasion powers can bring De Vrij to Old Trafford. The 22-year-old young, talented and gifted defender with his front foot defending defender is a potential long term centre back for the Old Trafford outfit. De Vrij’s immaculate quality on the ball, being comfortable in possession will enable United to play out from the back.

3. Mats Hummels:

Mats Hummels

A deal for someone like Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels will give the fans a lot more to talk about but it would be interesting to see if the Red Devils pursue their interest in the German who is a world class defender but has no Premier League experience.  However with Ed Woodward finally managing to use United’s global brand image in the transfer market, fans would believe United can entice the player despite lacking Champions League football. The player himself hinted that he would like to play in premier league one day.

The 25 year old German is a terrific defender who would seamlessly fir in United’s starting eleven based on pure talent with Dortmund are expected to play hardball as Jurgen Klopp would hardly want to part with his prized asset after losing Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich in back to back seasons.
