3 Players Who Could Be Shown Exit Doors At Chelsea

Three players Chelsea could sell in the transfer window

Jose Mourinho takes his Chelsea side into the 2014-15 season with one of the certain favourites for the Premier League title. The Blues have already acquired Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa to bolster the squad but the Stamford Bridge outfit need to cut down their relatively large squad to significantly reduce their wage bill. Here are the three players Chelsea could sell in the transfer window,

1. John Obi Mikel:

The Nigerian is set to fall down the pecking order in the Chelsea midfield with Nemanja Matic, Ramires and new signing Cesc Fabregas holding fort in the middle of the park. Mikel played a key role in his country’s run to the round of sixteen in the World Cup but reports in Independent have claimed that the Blues are willing to depart with the 27 year old. The reliable English tabloid claims that the player could leave for as low as £5m with Italian clubs interested in the player. Inter Milan are believed to be one of the names doing rounds while Napoli were also interested but any such news has died down ever since.

2. Marko Marin:

German daily Bild had reported late in June that Marko Marin was the subject  to a €5m bid from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. The German who spent the last season on loan at Spanish side Sevilla helping them win the Europa League title. The Andalusian club however don’t want to make the deal permanent for the 25 year who played on both the wings and grabbed 6 assists in 29 appearances for Sevilla under Unai Emery in what was a decent effort settling in a new league. A return to the Bundesliga looks probable with the player reportedly wanting to return back to his homeland where he played earlier for Werder Bremen.

Another midfielder Marco van Ginkel could also follow down the pecking order and might be relegated to the sidelines but he is excited going into the new season fully fit for the Blues. The Dutch sensation joined Chelsea from Vitesse Arnhem last summer but a ligament injury kept him out for the majority of the campaign. The player claimed, “In the summer I did some extra work, especially on my right leg for the knee and now it is much better. I am feeling good. I took a rest for maybe one week and then I started doing some exercises.”

3. Fernando Torres:

Perhaps the time is well and truly over for the onetime dazzling striker who sent shivers down the spine of the opposition defense. Diego Costa is surely the first choice for Mourinho but in hindsight the Portuguese won’t force the former Liverpool striker out of the club with Demba Ba joining Besiktas and Samuel Eto’o being released by the club. There were reports that a return to Atletico Madrid was on the cards but the La Liga winners having signed Mario Mandzukic from Bayern Munich perhaps don’t need their former fan favourite back at the Vicente Calderon.
