Everton’s search for a new manager seems never-ending. The Toffees gave former boss Ronald Koeman the sack last month and have been without a manager ever since, with former U23s coach David Unsworth assuming the role of the caretaker manager.
With the results not exactly improving under Unsworth, the board are under severe pressure to make a new appointment at the earliest. It was reported that the Toffees had their mind set on bringing in Watford FC manager Marco Silva into the club, but with the Hornets not willing to let go of the Portuguese, it seems that the Merseysiders have decided to turn their attention towards, Silva’s compatriot Rui Vitoria.
As per reports from the Mirror, the current Benfica boss is the latest name that the Toffees’ hierarchy is considering to appoint as the manager of the club. Considering the amount of success Vitoria has had in the past two years, having led Benfica to six major trophies, it could prove to be the right way for the club to go. And if it so happens that the Toffees bring him in, here are three players that Vitoria should look to add to his ranks at Everton.
The lack of a natural No.9 in the ranks has been a problem for Everton this season and Vitoria might look to address that with the capture of striker Callum Wilson of Bournemouth.
The 25-year old only returned from a long-term injury layoff before a month or so but has been right back into the thick of things for Eddie Howe’s side, having already scored 4 goals in 5 games across all competitions at a rate of a goal every 88 minutes, which is quite impressive for a player who had been sidelined for as long as he was.
The Toffees could more than use someone of his ilk in their ranks at the moment. His lethal finishing, combined with his experience in the Premier League would make him a valuable asset.
While a number of Premier League sides are being linked with a move for the Turkish star, it is a surprise Everton haven’t made themselves a party of interest in Tosun as well, given their lack of a proper option at the top.
The Besiktas forward has already netted 10 goals in 18 games across all competitions, including 4 goals in 5 games in the UEFA Champions League, which highlights his quality. Strong in the air, possessing some decent pace and a very good finisher as well, Tosun has all the qualities needed to thrive in the Premier League. An all-round forward who is very strong in all facets of attacking gameplay, the 26-year old Turkish international will be a great signing for the Toffees.
The youngster’s promising career has stalled since his move to the Old Trafford, with numerous injuries and continuous changes in the managerial positions having hampered his progress. And with things not looking likely to improve for the Englishman under Jose Mourinho, he could be on the lookout for a new club in January and Everton should make a swoop.
The 22-year old has made just two first-team appearances for the 20-time English champions this term. He may not have been able to shine in the past couple of years, but his innate talents remain unquestioned. Given that the Toffees lack a natural left-back to provide backup for the ever-present Leighton Baines, a move for the England international could prove to be a shrewd one for the club.
