3 Players Liverpool Should Buy With Their 60 Million War Chest

Share

Liverpool are on the cusp of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League and one can say that they even have an outside chance in the Premier League title race. In preparation of taking part in the Champions League next season, Liverpool’s principal owner John W. Henry is supposedly ready to sanction a 60m transfer war chest in the summer. Here’s a look at three players they should look to sign with that money.

1. Yehven Konoplyanka (Dnipro)

Liverpool’s move for Dnipro winger Yehven Konoplyanka was one of the most drawn out transfer saga’s of the January transfer window and a move for the Ukrainian reportedly collapsed in the final hours of the window. However, Liverpool are thought to have maintained their interest in Konoplyanka and a summer move is imminent.

Konoplyanka is a pacey winger who isn’t afraid to take on defenders and is capable of providing assists as well as score the occasional spectacular goal. He would add some much needed balance to Liverpool’s attack as his arrival would allow the likes of Philippe Coutinho into a more central role in midfield, a place where he is more effective.

2. Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)

Liverpool’ major concern has been their defense which has been surprisingly leaky for a side harboring title ambitions. The attack, which is one of the highest scorers in Europe, has bailed them out on numerous occasions this season, but that is not the way in which a title is likely to be won. Hence, defensive additions will be of paramount importance in the summer.

Left back has been a problem area for Liverpool and loan signing Aly Cissokho has hardly impressed enough to start on a consistent basis. Summer signing Kolo Toure too has been poor in recent weeks and his error have cost Liverpool crucial points. With two problem areas in the defense to sort out, Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen seems like the perfect solution.

He is equally capable of playing in central defense out out on the left and he will add some much needed quality and versatility to the back-line. With Tottenham struggling to find their feet, he could be snatched away for an affordable sum in the summer especially if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League.

3. Isco (Real Madrid)

Isco

Steven Gerrard is not getting any younger, and even though he might have prolonged his career by dropping into a deeper role in midfield, Liverpool lack the drive and intensity in the opposition half couple with the necessary quality to unlock opposition defenses. Even though Jordan Henderson proves the drive, the quality expected from a top draw Champions League side is somewhat lacking.

This is where the possible signing of Isco will come in really helpful if Liverpool manage to pull it off. He is young player who was the star of Spain’s U21 triumph last summer, but has been unable to secure a starting spot in a very good Real Madrid side, and if Liverpool are able to lure him to Anfield, he could prove to be one of the best pieces of business that the club have managed in recent times.

He has the quality and the vision to unlock defenses and it will be a delight to see him work with the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez . They are both players who make intelligent movement around the opposition penalty box and Isco has the ability to feed them on a regular basis. He also has the skills to take on defenses single handedly, which will provide yet another headache for Premier League, and even European defenses next season.
