3 Must-See Boxing Day Premier League Games

The crazy run of holiday fixtures starts with the Boxing Day games and the Christmas lineup certainly has some tasty treats for football fans. While everyone gets back to business in the Premier League after Christmas, there are some important games which could go quite some way in deciding who finishes where in the Premier League.

This is just the start of a fixture pile up and teams will have to be careful of not burning out but they also need to ensure they do not lose games, something which no team has been able to avoid this season, the unpredictability of the league will be on full flow on Boxing Day as three of the most interesting games are highlighted for everyone’s pleasure and enjoyment.

1. Stoke City vs. Manchester United

It certainly is not a good time to be the Manchester United manager, already out of the Champions League, struggling to find any sort of form and in danger of missing out on the Champions League next season as well; a loss at the hands of Stoke could well spell the end of Louis van Gaal at the club.

The Red Devils will be expecting a tough outing against Mark Hughes’ side that have defeated Manchester City and Chelsea at the Britannia and with the likes of Shaqiri and Arnautovic doing their bit, it could be a tough outing for the team from Manchester. This is a different Stoke and certainly can cause a lot of damage to any team that does not take them seriously.

2. Liverpool vs. Leicester

Who would have imagine Leicester being on top of the league standings at Christmas? The Foxes seem to be going all the way and playing a Liverpool side who are struggling to find an identity under Jurgen Klopp could extend their lead at the top of the table with a win.

The Reds were outclassed by Watford last week and will be looking for a response at home – where they have actually struggled to find any form. Jurgen Klopp now knows the enormity of the challenge he faces at Liverpool, but the Reds are due a good performance but could it come against a team that have the likes of Mahrez and Vardy doing the damage to any team that comes against them?

3. Southampton vs. Arsenal

The Gunners will be closely looking at the Liverpool – Leicester game as a slip by the leaders, Leicester, could give them a chance of getting to the top of the table if they win at Southampton. The Saints had defeated Arsenal in the corresponding fixture last season but haven’t won a game in their last five outings while Arsenal defeated Manchester City in the last match for the Gunners.

Arsenal are firing on all cylinders and with the likes of Ozil finding players and assisting them like the world is coming to an end, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal play to their potential or suffer the normal second half of the season slump in form which has been witnessed for a number of seasons.
