Three More Signings That Leeds United Could Make After Radrizzani’s Positive Words

New Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has made an attempt to give fans the assurance that the club are working hard to bring in new faces ahead of a crucial Championship season.

Pontus Jansson and Hadi Sacko have had their moves made permanent this summer, complementing the captures of Mateusz Klich, Felix Wiedwald and of course, the return from loan of controversial figure Giuseppe Bellusci.

After one fan tweeted that things were quiet on the transfer front, the boss replied with a tweet of his own simply reading “keep faith”. So, who might Leeds be about to bring to Elland Road? Here are three possibilities:

Samu Saiz (Huesca)

Although capable of playing up front, Saiz is not particularly strong and is very small and tricky. So a role behind the no.9 or in the midfield may allow him to trouble Championship defences and this seems to have interested Leeds for some time.

Although he hasn’t hit the heights so far, Saiz is improving slowly and may yet be capable of playing at a good level. He certainly has all the basic skills and so if does not get overawed by the pace and power of the English Championship then this could be the level for him. There will a surprise element to Saiz’s signing and defenders will not know what to expect, which could be of great benefit for Thomas Christiansen’s team.

Jonny Howson (Norwich City)

Although somewhat reluctantly, Norwich are willing to listen to offers for Howson and Leeds may not be the only party interested. As long as he is in the Championship that would undoubtedly be the player’s preferred destination.

Howson would surely welcome a return to Elland Road, the place where he made his professional breakthrough and the move would be hugely popular among fans in West Yorkshire. Howson has played nearly 200 times for Norwich City since leaving Leeds and was their player of the year in 2016.

In 37 Championship starts last season, his form level remained high. 27 of his starts came in the defensive midfield position and despite this, he contributed 6 goals and 7 assists to the cause. Making 1.7 tackles and 1.2 blocks per game on average, Howson’s defensive skills were in evidence all year and with a pass completion rate of almost 78% he does not often give the ball away.

Erik Pieters (Stoke City)
Leeds definitely need a proper replacement for Charlie Taylor, not just to cover the position defensively (as that can be achieved by playing Gaetano Berardi), but so as not to lose any attacking impetus on the left-hand side.

Pieters would add plenty in this position and may well be surplus to requirements at Stoke, despite his undoubted quality. Mark Hughes is thought to be in the market for a new left-back, for whatever reason, and as such, the Dutchman could be tempted to a club promising a title-chasing campaign.
