3 Cheap And Best Summer Transfers Targets For Newcastle – Featuring Crystal Palace’s Speed Merchant

Share

Current Championship leaders Newcastle are bound to make an immediate return to the topflight next season following their drop to the second tier last term, and the extent to which they prepare for life in the Premier League would go a long way in determining if they are able to avoid relegation again.

It would be expected of Benitez’s side to make a decent finish on the table in the topflight next term, with the club owner Mike Ashley willing to splash the cash in the summer transfer window just to make Newcastle great again.

Players that can make their dreams come true would come for a price, though, and while they won’t be making groundbreaking transfers, the right players are expected to be bought, and here are 3 who would be perfect summer arrivals to help lead Newcastle to safety and a commendable finish on the Premier League campaign log.

Andros Townsend

Benitez was keen on bringing the side’s former winger back in the January transfer window, and while Palace weren’t willing to let him go on loan, a permanent deal could still be struck in summer for the 25-year-old winger.

Townsend’s impressive form under Benitez in the Premier League last term saw him warm his way into the hearts of Newcastle faithful, and they would welcome a return despite their initial disappointments.

Benitez is optimistic he can bring out the best in Townsend once again despite a dip in form with the Eagles, and that he isn’t a key part at Selhurst Park as they battle relegation also means he wouldn’t hesitate to switch to the Saint James’ Park, where he can be assured of regular and first team football.

Of all Newcastle’s wingers, Richie remains the only one that has consistently impressed all along the campaign, with the likes of Atsu and Gouffran below par.

With a quality like Townsend on board, Benitez can be assured of having 2 great wingers available for his starting XI.

Callum Wilson

Injury has been the bane of the Bournemouth striker ever since the Cherries arrived the topflight, and to curb his frequent long-term injuries, he might welcome a change of environment as a solution.

Wilshere is a close example for him to learn this “trick” from, and it’s why a Newcastle switch could eventually work out after they failed to land him in recent attempts.

The 24-year-old can provide great striking services to the Toon’s attack despite the availability of the division’s hottest striking sensation within their ranks.

Lamine Kone

Newcastle need a solid defence if they are to have a chance of retaining their Premier League status at the end of next season, and they can get one going in the Sunderland centre-half.

However, securing the services of the 28-year-old could depend on the Black Cats’ status at the end of the current season, with the possibility of him being available for sale high if Moyes’ men don’t eventually escape the drop.

Kone is one of Premier League’s best centre-backs, and he would continue providing steel for the Sunderland rearguard as they fight on to avoid relegation.

Having conceded 65 goals the last time they were in the topflight and with 23 shipped in the Championship so far, it would be pertinent for Newcastle to land such a signing who is capable of helping to keep it tight at the other back.
