Why Ruben Loftus-Cheek is doing the right thing by staying at Chelsea

According to reports by The Guardian, England and Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to reject a chance to move on a season-long loan to Bundesliga outfit Schalke. It is being suggested that the midfielder is adamant to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place in the team under new manager Maurizio Sarri (h/t The Guardian).

The 22-year-old, who was in Russia with England in the World Cup, arrived back early from his holidays to train with the new boss and subsequently impress him (h/t The Guardian). He had a terrific loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, helping the Eagles survive another year in the Premier League.

Even though Chelsea have bought Jorginho and secured a loan move for Mateo Kovacic, there is room for Loftus-Cheek to stay and prove his worth. Here’s why the Englishman is doing the right thing by staying at Stamford Bridge:

Manager quality will have a huge impact

Maurizio Sarri has a great reputation for improving players by coaching and dipping them into his system. In fact, Jorginho is the perfect example of this. The Italian played a major role in transforming him from being just another young midfielder to someone who can act as a commanding defensive presence by making the ball talk from deeper positions.

Loftus-Cheek is also a young player with plenty of potential but he has a long road ahead of him. Even if Sarri does not provide him with regular game time, the learning process will certainly be intriguing. The Blues will surely test their bench strength in Europa League matches, meaning the 22-year-old will receive a chance to prove his utility during that time.

Furthermore, Kovacic may not stay at Stamford Bridge for more than one season and Cesc Fabregas isn’t getting any younger.

If Loftus-Cheek performs well this season and evolves as a player under Sarri, he could be a first-choice midfielder by the start of next season.
